New S4 pics... with Martha bonus! YAYZ!

She's got a ring on her finger which, understandably, folks are wondering if it means she's engaged/married. Possibly. As a woman could only ever get over someone by being suddenly married off. *insert massive eyeroll here*

Although - as my brain is full of crackspec as anyone who reads my Who posts probably knows at this point - I'm wondering if it might be a modified version of this ring....

I'm thinking a Master possession in S4 is all but an inevitability. It's not only an old skool thing he does, but he totally has no body now (as Jedi!Doctor burninated it).

I do have to admit, as long as she doesn't end up Truly Dead by the end of it, I think the idea of Master!Martha is kind of hot. However, that could just be me desirous to see (Not)Martha kick the Doctor's scrawny ass ("Second best", I'll show him "second best"), so I could be a little biased.

I keep hoping that if Martha really is married now (concurring in the general eyeroll) that it's not to Milligan, but to someone genuinely frickin' awesome whom we haven't met yet but will in fact make the Doctor twitchy with jealousy. Hey, I can dream. And stop giving me gorgeous plot bunnies for which I en't got the time to write them.

I was hoping for somebody from UNIT (as a way to finally bring them full-fledged back into the plot somehow)... or just have SOME kind of story (either good or evil). Although either he has some story or he's Mr. Peel and we never see him. I don't think I want another Gwen/Rhys subplot.

whom we haven't met yet but will in fact make the Doctor twitchy with jealousy.

Heh. Yeah. He'll probably be all happy and congratulatory. Even though for all intents and purposes (considering what an arrogant prick he is), he should be jealous, if not finally realizing what he lost, but even without that interest since everything has to be about him. His companion who he treated like shit for a series dare love someone else more? Curse her!!

Hey, I can dream. And stop giving me gorgeous plot bunnies for which I en't got the time to write them.

Someday I will be through writing this blasted Ten/Martha novel and there will be! (Not that I'm complaining, Martha, you're lovely. Oh, and Ten, I can occasionally tolerate you too.)

Oh Ten, it would be so easy to write you off as a nasty paradox between 9 and 11 had that chemistry not saved you.

I keep wishing I could peek into an alternate universe where Ten is played by someone old, gray, wrinkled and chunky, just to see if everything he does and says is STILL wonderful with all the little fangirls then. I have a feeling I already know the answer to that one, though.

I know the chances are vanishingly small, but I cannot stop hoping that the next Doctor will be old and crotchety and not remotely attractive on his physical merits alone. Yes, Tennant, you are pretty, and I am not above enjoying your ass or your pretty brown eyes, but most of the time, you are still Doctor Lite. And you are somehow not as hot as Troughton.

I think they've already pretty much flat-out stated that there'll never be another older, crotchety, grandfatherly-looking Doctor (them saying that Bill Nighy, my own dream pick for Eleven, was out because he "couldn't handle the stunts" is a beautiful moment of pure ageism on top of the rest of the show's kicks to the teeth), another reason that I can't manage to take Nu Who at all seriously--as you said, Doctor Lite. And Troughton (and Baker, T.) are more attractive because they have that Doctor-ness about them, they're not just standing there and looking (supposedly) gorgeous. I miss that terribly. (And I am dying to write some Two/Martha, though it'll have to wait until the other stories are wrapped.)

O YES. Also Baker, C. Though that may be just me. I'm, er, a bit of a sucker for a Doctor with an outsized ego. And Hartnell, W, of course! Who is this Bill Nighy of whom you speak? *wikis*

(And I am dying to write some Two/Martha, though it'll have to wait until the other stories are wrapped.)

You and me both, my friend. I'll be looking forward to yours. Write faster!

Bill Nighy's been the Davy Jones character (under twenty pounds of makeup) in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, Slartibartfast in the Hitchhiker's movie, the aging rock star in Love, Actually and the stepdad in Shaun of the Dead--and he's only in his fifties, like Hartnell was, so fuck this "too creaky for the stunts" shit. He'd be great. But alas. And I only don't include Baker, C. in my "more attractive" list 'cos I haven't yet seen him in action. :-) His personality sounds fun.

"You and me both, my friend. I'll be looking forward to yours."

Can you imagine "Smith and Jones" if it were Two in the hospital and not Ten? For one thing, he'd have been very kind to that other doctor (Julia?) who was panicked about losing air if they opened the doors.

Also, when did stunts become such an all-conqueringly essential element of Doctor Who? There've always been plenty, yeah, it's adventure, but it ain't V for Vendetta.

...Although if they wanted to give Eleven to Hugo Weaving, I would not say no.

"Also, when did stunts become such an all-conqueringly essential element of Doctor Who?"

Probably about the same time that "plot," "continuity" and "traveling to other planets and galaxies" became silly little fripperies to be disregarded at will. :-p I'm not even forty yet and I'm already so damned sick of how modern television all has to be about Pretty Young People doing Pretty Young Things--it's so boring.

"...Although if they wanted to give Eleven to Hugo Weaving, I would not say no."

Hot damn, neither would I. But alas, they've said flat out they're not looking at actors over forty, and creaky aging Hugo is seven years past the sell-by date.

Oh my god, the acting. Every time anyone brings up Two, I feel like I have to post this clip from "Evil of the Daleks" (http://youtube.com/watch?v=K4w9OR_stic). It's not only a brilliant display of acting, but the man - with the strength of that performance by itself - makes the Daleks scary and threatening (and one of the few times I've ever found them scary)... and that's early era Who when the villains were made of tin foil. Also, ironically, one of the Doctors closest to Gallifrey (being only the second incarnation) and yet he's a greater humanitarian than I think... just about all of them (most especially Ten).

Evil of the Daleks! I have not seen it yet! I want it so badly. *emo tear* Ah, well, soon I'll indulge myself.

and that's early era Who when the villains were made of tin foil.

You know, even before factoring in performances, I think I find tinfoil villains more convincing than CGI villains, even when the CGI is good. It's just always going to be subtly different when the actors have something real, present, and material to interact with. Case in point: Virtually anything would have been better than Gollum!Ten: an indistinct shape in a wad of clothing, and muffled voice issuing from a bag, anything. /random

IAWTC. Because [livejournal.com profile] bana05 has already covered all my issues with Martha/Milligan more better than I could. RTD would do a much better job of convincing me that he's not pairing her off because clearly she NEEDS to have a man to be fulfilled if he didn't pick one that was consolation prize-flavored. Also because that way he wouldn't shaft the fic I want to write where Martha tumbles way too quicky into a relationship with Milligan because when the TARDIS and all its telepathic safeguards go away her PTSD comes crashing in like whoa and sleeping with the guy she saw killed in front of her freaks her out so she starts telling him about the Year That Wasn't and he thinks she's fucking nuts and packs her off to psychiatric where she discovers that she really wants to slug the Doctor in the jaw and languishes until Lucy!Master shows up to claim her and remind her of the first time they actually met, and—

That is an interesting idea, I just spec'd on someone else's journal wondering if this might be her attempt to grasp at normalcy or the mundane (not unlike the Doctor's nostalgia about "2am, getting a taxi home", like he's at once compelled and repelled by the domestic). An attempt to wind down from the insanity of her life previous, but at the same time, unable to let it go completely (her working for Torchwood? Meeting the Doctor again and likely getting involved in some adventure instead of just staying home with bf/fiance/hubby?).

There really is just... no way at all I'm seeing how, whoever this is, (unless they're TW/UNIT or an ex-companion) understanding or even knowing about her other life. Milligan couldn't/wouldn't know. Briefly, I thought it might be that Morgenstern (http://doctorwho.time-and-space.co.uk/coppermine/displayimage.php?album=89&pos=530) (the brown-nosy med student in S&J who was trying to make nice with the Judoon with less than stellar results), he at least seemed inclined to believe the alien invasions were real. They could have gotten to know each other again during the renewed training / exams. But yeah, if she's starving for the mundane, then by the looks she'd have hit the jackpot with that dry Morgenstern guy if he's the one. Ugh.

From: [identity profile] elliptic-eye.livejournal.com
Ooooh, I like this idea. Well, not the idea of Martha pairing off with Morgenstern, obviously, but I would read a fic that developed him and partnered them to solve some alien-zalien/timey-wimey mystery and learn to stand each other whilst punching all of each other's buttons in a heartbeat.

I have to admit that rather appeals to me since it's essentially writing Martha as the Doctor and Morgenstern as her plucky sidekick/companion-nee-love interest. Suddenly "Kim Possible" flashed through my mind. Heh. Although funny how, canon-wise, that's about never going to happen since you can't have yet another person (and another female to boot) being a better Doctor than the actual Doctor (Sarah Jane>>>Ten. Martha Jones>>>Ten).

People are coming up with all kinds of cool theories about all this, but sadly I think that as usual, it's much more Occam's Razor--Rusty needs her romantically neutralized, so he'll pair her off with Milligan, end of story. (But come on, write that fic--if he can fuck with canon to suit his own ends, so can the rest of us!)

Then here comes "unromantic" Donna and then the return of Rose and there goes Nu Who, flushed down the void toilet and enter my denials of ever having watched it.

Same here, same here. My Ten/Martha stories are shaping up as my Viking funeral for Nu Who, after which I bugger off forever to the old stuff.

I'm just hoping this isn't the last of Freema or she's cursed to forever be some earthbody for the Doctor / never gets away from Nu Whoniverse. America tends to steal away all/most of the British black talent in any case, but I shamelessly admit I'd love to see her in something regular here (as long as it's tolerable) or maybe some movies.

Oh, I'd be incredibly happy for her if she got something like Sophia Myles got (er, better-written, I'd hope)--time will tell.

Don't worry, I'm on it, and without the slightest compunction. I really don't see Nu Who as more canonical than, say, the books—and my standards may be somewhat arbitrary, but fuck it. It's not like we're deciding what to put in the Bible/Torah/Quran/Tripitaka, here.

Same here. It's the equivalent of canon dumpster-diving for me--mostly rotten food and maggots, but every now and then there's a chair that just needs a repaired leg and a little new upholstery.
