THE MASTER!!! Dressed like Eight/a vicar!!

All yur TARDIS iz belong 2 me!!!!111
And I was spoiled rotten for the episode, but I still had to hold my hands over my mouth to hold back the scream (but I did manage to spill my glass of wine jumping up in glee. One roommate threw a sofa cushion at my head, another was doubled over in laughter ... partly at my reaction and just plain Who hysterics). My heart actually breaks for some of my friends who have fallen off the Who train of squee this season, because holy hell in a handbasket, they don't know what they're missing!! S3 >>> everything
That. was. so. damn. good.
So good in fact I must cap for emphasis!!
Holy frakking hell... I don't know how the finale is going to top these last four episodes. Although I get a distinct feeling this ONE GUY, the Master, is going to topple the whole lot of the Dalek and Cybermen fanboy masturbation of "Doomsday"... single-handed (and with the help of his "friends" whatever the hell those skiffy spheres of death seemed to be in the promo. It's Phantasm!).

Not The Reavers. Although humans turned (de-evolved?) into beasts? "De-evolved". Just like the Macra and Hybrid Sec (and John Smith and Professor Yana... and maybe other Time Lords?) Funny that in any other episode I probably would have thought them complete tosh to the point of embarrassing, but... somehow I can let it all slide here.

And the Doctor is playing peepshow with stripped-down Jack sweating in a room.
"How did you ever cope without me." "Fantastic." Oh, the slash. It was strong in this ep. ((adds join Doctor/Master community to checklist)) On that note...
"Say my name." Cuz it goes back to the importance of words, saying his name makes him real. "No Time Lord has travelled this far" Master knew that too, didn't he? And he reappears as a child probably tricked some poor couple to take him in and raise him (that. dubious. bastard.)... but what happened to his TARDIS? Obviously it's either gone or that's where he was heading (prior infiltrating British politics, of course).

The Doctor and "The Professor" going on about their mutual brilliance.... while they're reminiscing about universities.
Although interesting the Master as a human (also with a teacher connotation, "professor") is a much nicer guy then the Doctor had been depicted (ok, maybe he might have been nicer had the TARDIS chosen a different era, but shePaul Cornell & Rusty didn't. They purposefully showed us the elitist, vaguely racist John Smith, while we see the meaning well, slightly bungling, kind-hearted old man of Professor Yana who tried to save a bunch of innocent people from cannibals and the fall of the universe). It'll be interesting to see if his time as kind, old Professor Yana influenced the Master at all, not unlike his time as John Smith seemed to influence the Doctor (the guy who doesn't do domestic and the overwhelming Lonely God emo not only inviting Joan along, but suggesting they try to start-up where they left off).

Capped as this is probably going to be the one and only time where the Master is crying and it means something real. Overhearing the Doctor talk about Daleks and the Time War... I'm going to say this was the loss of Gallifrey coming through which would mean it actually does invoke this genuine sense terrible sense of loss and mourning, so strong it breaks through the chameleon arching. Even in the Master. The death of one's whole planet and people (by the hand of the Doctor) would do it.
"Master.... I'm sorry" He apologizes! What is that about I wonder I wonder?? "Sorry" cuz he blew up all their planet and peoples ... or is it something more personal? Bet you anything Theta and Koschei, fighting side by side in the war (even if the Master may have had to be tricked or bribed into it possibly... with a new set of regenerations by chance??), but Theta left Koschei behind during some battle .... not unlike Solomon closing the grate on Frank in DIM (out of fear). HISTORY AND DRAMA AND BAND OF BROTHERS SLASH!! EEEEEEE!!!! History... and then Master steals the Doctor's TARDIS for revenge (kind of like sleeping with the Doctor's wife, isn't it?And with her putting up little protest)
"Say that again. It's rare." So many good lines in this ep!!

You know, however lovely this scene was (kind of hitting the same place in me Doctor+kitties do), it felt... anvilicious to me for some reason. Like we're supposed to notice Martha being friendly to this little boy. When I get that feeling it tends to Mean Something. What, I don't really know, but methinks this won't be the last time she sees that kid.
Of course, I don't think one can post about this ep without mentioning the OT3ness... guhHUH!!

Martha has her arm in Jack's and Jack's has his around the Doctor. Damn British teatime/family-viewing!! *hugs fanfic all the harder* The fact we will never see these three inflagrante on screen? Just hurts me on a deep personal level.
Like I wasn't aware of it before, but I'm more certain than ever now the Rose mentions are most definitely a plot device to make Martha feel bad / inadequate due to Rusty Going Somewhere with this Martha angst/inadequacy. BUT, I really want to know what Rusty is playing at already. These Martha scenes are so damn obvious (and painful to watch, my poor Martha), there's just no way Rusty isn't going somewhere with it and somewhere BIG. However, I'm really scared. The parallel between "The Professor"/Chantho with the Doctor/Martha was also gratuitous... and what does "The Professor" do to his brave assistant who wouldn't go anywhere without him? He killed her. Of course, that is The Master, the antithesis of The Doctor. So whatever the Master ends up doing, the Doctor will likely do the exact opposite (or so my mind goes wishful thinky with such simplicity, makes sense though)... but that's not to say Martha won't be in serious danger this finale. In fact, to drive in that polarity between the Master and the Doctor... I fear Martha will have to do exactly as Chantho did and be "the insect"/"the girl" that finally does "the Professor" in ... at the cost of her own life. Both the Master and the Doctor responsible for the deaths of their assistants, but the Doctor isn't going to let it alone and accept Martha being human and mortal and thus die like a human sacrificing herself bravely, indomitable till the end, to thwart his archnemesis and most likely to save him (in other words, all because of him). He's going to try to save her. Possibly even do the unconscionable - for him, anyway - to do it (Cuz, hello, Ursula and add Lazslo and "I won't lose her" from "42"). It will go directly back to the conundrum of "what it means to be human" (or changing what it means to be human and the extent that can be pushed). Exactly because of his obvious discomfort with Jack's immortality in this episode by way of Bad Wolf. It would be hypocritical on one side, but also puts the Doctor in the position - makes him fully understand - of how far one is willing to go for someone they love... yeah, I said it. I think he's going to finally realize, so near it being too late, how much he cares - loves - Martha.
BUT I'm left wondering... what the hell is Utopia?? Are we ever going to find out?? If I were going to engage in some wild speculating, my guess it's New Gallifrey. Time Lord essences trapped and need bodies - in this case, humans - as hosts, so the call was like the Pied Piper. A bit (exactly) like the Gelth (also refugees from the Time War). But that's kind of cracky as yet so I won't delve further. The Utopia Project? That anything akin to the Lazarus Project (both intending to extend human life seemingly beyond the impossible / normal capacity... one sponsored by Saxon, the other by...???).
The promo? Are the Doctor, Martha or Jack even in this episode (depending on how quickly the Doctor can fix Jack's time agent vortex manipulator)? Maybe not, but I find myself not too troubled by that notion if it's 42 min of John Simm doing what he does (with the amazing acting) and set-up for "Saxon's" time infiltrating Earth and the British politics (I'm sure the Doctor will be thrilled in his role deposing the last prime minister too... setting it all up so Saxon can step right up to the plate. Brilliant Doctoryou douchebag. I WILL cap that two thumbs up. It's a moral imperative that it's iconed.
AND HOLY SHIT!! U.N.I.T.!! "Hermits United" indeed, these eps are like old skool reunion. Looks like the Murkans took it over completely with Torchwood in the UK (if the Brig is there, I probably will die from squee, no real question there sad as that is). Not that it really matters though... as from the looks of that trailer "Saxon" is going to pull a Slitheen and kill them all. Is this is all UNIT is good for? Mass murder in conference rooms? *sighs*
And what is "the sound of drums"? Time Lord marching band music (to inevitable doom)?? The call to war? If it's Time Lordy related, why does the Master hear it, but not the Doctor?

All yur TARDIS iz belong 2 me!!!!111

Date: 2007-06-18 06:02 am (UTC)I'm saving those pics of the best damn OT3 out there if you don't mind. I'm not going to do anything with them though.
What I wouldn't give to have all four Martha/Ten/Jack/Master on the screen at once. OT4 anyone???

Date: 2007-06-19 01:45 am (UTC)Although if you did do anything with them, I wouldn't mind. And oh yes, it is the best.damn.threesome. that's ever hit Who. It does trump Nine/Rose/Jack to me (and I quite liked them so that is saying something).
