This fixation with DD:HN has made me a decade younger. Next thing you know I'll be carded in the next round of bar-hopping (wishful thinking).

Teen Vogue scans graciously provided by [livejournal.com profile] ur_favoritegirl on [livejournal.com profile] _diegoluna.

Such informative folks we have on LJ. I wouldn't know these things otherwise (I can honestly say, I don't look up Teen Vogue very often. I don't look up Vogue very often, period... and I only look at Vanity Fair for the pretty pictures).

As cheesy as anyone can see DD:HN is, y'all gotta admit, these two look fab together. Last I heard, they were dating, but then Romola didn't attend the DD:HN L.A. premiere, so no clue on their current status.

Random Diego update, but one of his movies, Todo el poder, is going to be on Univision tomorrow at 8:00 CT. Obviously, this is only relevant to those who can speak Spanish and want to watch a good movie and/or are fanatical Diego fans, language barrier be damned. Of course, pretty needs no translation. ;)

Well, that (dating) would a nice piece of marketing right before the film opened.

I'll probably see it for the Latin score, 'cause that's my bulletproof kink. What did you think of
the soundtrack?

I know!! We're the same age (25), but he looks like a child compared to me (bastard). However, don't let that boyish face above fool you. The guy can switch from altar boy to Don Juan DeMarco in the blink of an eye. It's like his own bizarre niche ... and he's hooked me with it.

Well, if you're into the Latin hip-hop / pop scene, it's the sdtk to have, but if you're not... I think it's still a great listen. It's excellent party music. Like the first DD (sdtk), it doesn't really stay true to the music of the era. However, there *are* songs in the movie that sound like they belong in 1958 Cuba. It's just the most pronounced stuff is the stuff on the sdtk (which is all contemporary).

I think it's that special hell discount...

I remember having a very lengthy conversation with my friend Mala about Diego's appeal and we ended up bringing up Elijah Wood, for he shares that entire 'forbidden fruit' thing only we agreed that thinking of Elijah in sexual terms for us was distinctly...ishy, and for the most part, he doesn't come across as a sensuous being, whereas Diego - he revels in it. A half smile there, the expression in his eyes, and then as demonstrated by Havana Nights, a swivel of those hips, and hello, hiwrongdirtybadsexYES.

It's really astonishing.

I also see a lot of preference to Gael over Diego in Y Tu Mama Tambien, and while I think Gael's attractive, I've always preferred Diego, and I was trying to pin down why people would prefer Gael over Diego (you know, completely ignoring the entire "free will and opinions" angle) and I just hit on the fact is because Diego looks so young, some people get disturbed by it.

And yes, Romola and Diego did date during the filming, but it ended after the shooting stopped...and the rumor is that it was not an amicable breakup - "he broke her heart" was one of the thrillingly inventive phrases thrown around. Apparently Diego has a reputation for being something of a *cough*manwhore*cough* and Romola didn't play that.

Diego has spoken of the relationship ending in Details magazine, but in typical boy fashion, didn't say what happened, only that he should have listened to his father and not date actresses - and that he prefers to be in a relationship with someone who's independent and doesn't need to be in a satellite relationship - where they compulsively need to be with and the center of the other's universes.

Ah, charolastras.com webforums - the people there scare me, but they do give up good scans and good information. You just need to wade through the pink font, the hysterical teenies, and swearing in spanish and english, and misspelled on both counts.

;)

Why yes, I'm obsessively devoted to details and an elitist snippy bitch!

I never really was that way when I was a teenager (honestly. I was the girl in the library, forever reading) so I justify my crushing and shallow cavorting as making up for lost time. Yay, hormones!

And thanks for the heads up for Todo el poder! It's airing opposite Alias tonight for me, so I'll probably channel surf through commercial breaks, or get it on DVD at amazon.com.

I'd definitely have to agree with that, but I also think there's something about Gael. This sort of intangible vulnerability. I don't know if it's him or the characters he's played (my opinion is also probably skewed since I saw "El crimen del padre amaro" only a few weeks ago). I always have this inkling to give someone a hug every time I see him. It's almost like Gael has the innocence, but Diego - per his boyishness - has all the appearance of it. I'm not sure how much sense I'm making, probably none.

Gael also has a bit of that pretty/ugly thing going on. He's not conventionally beautiful (at least not to me). That might be contributing to the opinion I, possibly others, have of him.

Gael, however, like Diego can switch in a moment's notice. One second he can be all vulnerable and downtrodden... the next he throws a sideways glance at one of his co-stars and ... jelly legs. Must sit down. Also, if there was a pretty eyes contest, Gael would probably win hands down.

It's hard to say who I prefer. I'm not sure if I can. I think Gael might just pull a little bit ahead for me because, overall, I've enjoyed more of his movies... but they're both seething with tons of natural charisma. Diego has a more carefree (libertine, from the looks of things) quality to him. I really (really) like that... although that's NOT so much a quality I look for in the men I date.

Apparently Diego has a reputation for being something of a *cough*manwhore*cough* and Romola didn't play that.

I don't want to sound obtuse or anything, but having a lot of Mexican friends and studying there for a year and a half, I grew quite accustomed to Mexican men... especially the cute ones (but obviously, not quite in Diego's league). Not remotely surprised.

where they compulsively need to be with and the center of the other's universes.

That really makes it sound like things ended so well. Wow.

Heh. I'd have to agree with that. I only lurked there mostly, because, uhm, yeah. Bless 'em for their mutual love of Diego and Gael and it's *the* place to get some sweet scans, but they're furrowed in their youth. Enjoy it while they have it I say, but it just reminds me of how 16 years old I'm *not* anymore. When I gush, I usually do it Fametracker style. Spurts of teenybopper squeeing balanced out with nice big doses of brutal honesty.

And thanks for the heads up for Todo el poder! It's airing opposite Alias tonight for me, so I'll probably channel surf through commercial breaks, or get it on DVD at amazon.com.

I guess I just found another benefit of taping - but not watching - "Alias". I'm still hanging on, but eh. I'm not bitter about it, it's just I haven't been as intrigued. David Anders is still so pretty though. I can't wait to see him in something outside of "Alias". Speaking of an actor who's boyish (but not).

You know, I actually see them completely opposite of this. Maybe I haven't seen enough of Diego's pictures from Dirty Dancing, but when I see him, I see a pretty boy. And I hate to say this, but I just can't get that image of him as a pretty chubby boy. I know, it's been *years*, but it's still there.

And Gael.... ahhhh. He's got that dirty, rebel look. And it might actually be the fact that in most of his movies he *does* look dirty. But now that you mention it, "El Crimen del Padre Amaro" did change my perspective on him. Saw a beautiful vulnerability that made him even more appealing to me. But I still like him dirty, heh.

heee on Chubby!Diego. I did watch "El premio mayor", but I don't remember most of it. I think that's a good thing. I'm also glad I didn't follow my friends advise when she suggested I watch "El abuelo y yo". I think it re-ran recently on Univision.

Speaking of kids (and this is totally random), I've seen early pics of Gael. I think everyone knew then he'd grow up to be hot. He was a beautiful little kid with big green eyes.

And Gael.... ahhhh. He's got that dirty, rebel look.

*sighs* Word to that. Those Levi's "French Dictionary" ads. Mischievous!Gael. Grungy!Gael. Adorable!Gael. Laughing!Gael. Romantic!Gael. Wet!Gael... all in about 3 minutes. Yeah. That had to sell some jeans.

Since Gael does look so very good grungy... I'm very interested in seeing "Mala educación", where he doesn't look grungy at all. Drag!Gael? I'm so there (even if it's more serious than previous Almodovar movies and the chicas aren't in it).

"El Crimen del Padre Amaro" did change my perspective on him. Saw a beautiful vulnerability that made him even more appealing to me.

Also, the characters he plays... it's like the crap that happens to them, they brought upon themselves in most cases. His character in "Amores perros"? ECdPA? Yet you still can feel sorry for them. I'm not a big fan of ECdPA in general, but I cry at that part at the end after they leave the clinic. Gael just brings it out of me. He cries. I cry.
