Castiel = Ego, Jimmy = Id and Dean's immunity via Super-Ego?

Someone who knows way more about psychology than I could probably come up with an intriguing meta about how Famine's power basically supercharged the Id until the Ego was powerless to hold it back.

You might see that literally personified in Castiel as Ego being completely overwhelmed by Jimmy or the Jimmy urges as Id.

The reason why Dean wasn't affected may be because his Super-Ego is grossly overdeveloped, though to Famine read as him being "dead inside" (or that he simply didn't understand what he was seeing in Dean). Dean, for pretty much all his life but much more after 40 years in Hell (a decade of which he himself was torturer), is near constantly assailed by feelings of guilt and inferiority.

It is pretty much the characterisation logic behind this 5.14 coda I have been BULLIED into starting to write, if that counts.

ETA. It is interesting Dean accused Cas of being "already dead" in 4x22 too. Angel of the Lord, Cas. That's also likely what inspired Cas to rebel (and not to lose Dean's friendship), prove he wasn't "dead" or knew he was "dead" but the only way to life/vitality is by way of Dean (humanity aka Mama Earth). Kripke isn't this fun, but it would be ironic that maybe Dean's way to life or resurrection (salvation) may be through Castiel.

LOL Too true, though canonically we'll probably get more cheeseburgers = pomegranates. Cas stopped Dean from eating it in 4x22, tried to quit himself in TCCODW and then Cas (or Jimmy, whatev) was fucking gorging himself in MBV. That mean Cas is stuck Below now with the rest of the bottom-feeders married to Hades!Dean?
