TW - 201 - Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

I watched "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" as I'm naughty and couldn't wait for the American showing in a few days. I'll probably have more to say about it later since it, surprisingly, didn't leave me numb and bored (or aghast at it's god awful), thus silent, as some recent Who has. However, I will say...
Was I the only one that, upon seeing that one Jack/Ianto scene in the office, was strongly reminded of that scene between Ten/Martha at the end of "The Lazarus Experiment"? Basically one side trying to pick up where they left off - or believed they'd left off - as if things weren't any different. Wanting the vague, dubious status quo to stay intact. The other side not having it, wanting some kind of assurance / security that things are more than just being the "treat" or meaningless (office) shag. I don't consider myself a Jack/Ianto shipper (most of the TW ships leave me indifferent), but that inevitably leads me to thoughts of Ianto ditching the Hub to do his own thing after getting tired of Jack's supposed assurances of not being some office shagjust a passenger, but being treated like an office shag. Then again, Jack does seem capable of showing love to more than one person. That and I'm not sure where Ianto would go, unless UNIT needed a Jeeves with benefits. Ianto also comes off generally a lot more subservient (and creepy) than Martha ever did.
Although I'd have thought last series Gwen was more "Torchwood's" Rose (the blowfish dropping the reminder anvils of her being "the heart""the heart" that didn't manage to do much. The fickle heart who seemed not not mind too much shagging Owen on the side while being in 'love' with Reese and having this odd Mary Magdalene thing going with Jesus!Jack). However, between the apparent attempts to actual moving on and, by the looks, more assertive Gwen in KKBB? She gives me more a Martha vibe. So is Gwen going to be Gwen or is she also reflecting whatever companion of Who the latest series or is she becoming an amalgam? Gwen, but also some of Rose, some of Martha, but eventually some of Donna? Then again, I admit the gag reflex kicked in something fierce towards the end with Gwen's "Tell Jack...", which reminded me a bit too quickly of Ten's "Tell Rose..." in TIP. Meh.
Seven Time Agents out there somewhere apart from Captain Spike and Jack? More potential fuckbunnies for Team Crotch! Rah.
Also, why didn't they just cut that damn hand off? Not like he was well liked by any of them, BUT! I suppose they needed his piece of ass not exploded for some future plotmindless sex development.
Grey. I'm calling him being a brother, possibly older. I'd also wonder if there's something anvilly and unsubtle about the name. Being an anti-hero or some other sort walking the razor's edge down the middle or whatever?
Overall, I liked the ep for all the crack, but the ships still don't do anything for me. That includes the new Captains slashing. Of course, I would have been satisfied had it not been drowning in the abyss of crap that was TW S1, LOTTL or VOTD.

Date: 2008-01-19 01:55 pm (UTC)Well, let's see what comes of the bombshell dropped at the end. I hope it goes somewhere and is not too terribly disappointing and anti-climactic.
And you are correct. The ships do nothing at all for me either.

Date: 2008-01-19 06:02 pm (UTC)I've taken the route of expecting absolutely nothing (nothing, or pure crack), somehow that always works for Torchwood viewing. I don't know if I'd be able to keep watching otherwise.
