[livejournal.com profile] parrotfish tagged me to do this and she is quite evil for it. I never know what to say in these things that isn't terribly personal or terribly uninteresting/well-known.

RULES
1. List seven habits/quirks/facts about yourself.
2. Tag seven people to do the same.
3. Do not tag the person who tagged you or say that you tag whoever wants to do it.

Here goes:

1. I'm terrified of octopus. I don't know when or how that fear started, but it's there. Walking through the mini-aquarium in the Mall of America last summer, they had a large red-purple octopus lying at the bottom of it's tank ... I just about passed out.

2. I have a large and ridiculously unorganized music collection which I fear will never get straightened out. I have boxes of cds and vinyl under my bed and in my closet that's just collecting dust but I can't bring myself to sell any of it or give it away despite the fact most of it is also on my hard drives. *sighs*

3. I was nearly killed - or at least assured a life in traction - during my study abroad in Mexico when a taxi almost ran me over. I dodged it only just... by diving down a flight of cement stairs. First time I'd ever broken a limb in my life (my leg), but ALIVE with a broken limb. Oh, and it put me off from driving in Mexico ever, no matter how much my very good friend in Monterey begs me to visit more often.

4. I can't swim and don't have much intention of learning which obviously makes me an idiot I realize, but... since I have no great inclination to go on a cruise (which I hate, mind) again anytime soon and never cared all that much for the beach? I'll risk it.

5. I've visited all 50 states. Florida 8 times (Rah rah for the Disney Corporation and my godfather/dad's best friend living in Tampa).

6. I eat chunky Skippy out of the jar. No bread or jelly or anything. Just sit there with a spoon despite every time I do that scene from "Death Becomes Her" pops in my mind, the one with Goldie Hawn eatting cake frosting in the dark, but... that's not about to stop me.

7. I something of a Lego fixation that I've had since I was a little kid. I don't collect or anything or die of squee when a new, particularly expensive set comes out... but I find it therapeutic, clicking those bricks together. I used to hide it when I was a kid due to some stigma little girls didn't play with Legos. Now as I'm old and don't really give a shit, you'll find orphaned bricks lying all over my place.

Because everyone else on my flist has either done the meme already or is on extended ElJay hiatus.

Hey, you! Long time no see! How goes it?

You can bet I will be doing this meme as I am a sucker for a meme, though it will be tomorrow because I am so sleepy right now I'm afraid of what I might say.

OMG, me too! Last time we were at an aquarium I froze when I saw it, then had to close my eyes and run past the tank. Mr. Tater didn't know I was afraid of them because it had never come up, and was a bit baffled. Now he knows. I just think they're terrifying and...yeah, enough of that. :: shudder ::

It goes. ;) And you? Still in mourning?

God forbid me urging the sleep deprived on my flist of embarrassing ElJay confessions. *urges*

I don't know what it is. I think it's just the ... total lack of anything familiar or mammalian about them or something. I'd wonder if that's what they were going for with bag o'flesh Daleks under the skirts (and spectacularly failed with me as I don't find Daleks frightening. Never did. So, in other words, about an hour of Jacques Cousteau >>> Daleks for sheer terror factor)

Still in mourning?

More like angry denial. Is that the correct order of the stages of grief? Not sure if I'll ever get around to acceptance since I disagree from a literary standpoint as well as a shipping one, lol.

I think mine started when my mom had a baby octopus in a jar in her classroom at school and I picked it up and it leaked formaldehyde on me. I thought it was octojuice and it was still alive in there...

Did the Sea Witch scare you in The Little Mermaid?

*passes you a drink in the bitter Ten/Martha fan corner (which you're still very lucky to have not latched onto I must say)*

You see, at least you have something concrete to link it back to. The best I've come up with is being on a beach when I was really small and seeing a fairly large live octopus on a rock a guy just caught.... slithering around.

Did the Sea Witch scare you in The Little Mermaid?

I think it's due to the Disneyfied animation, it didn't really bother me (and it was a woman/octopus so... not with the whole living, boneless, awfulmonsterinatankitsgonnagetmeOMG. Ahem). Had it been more true to life, maybe. Although I'll admit the giant squid in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea? It's totally cheap skiffy rubber monster but *cringes* I don't like jellyfish much either, they had a display of those in Mall of America too IIRC. I'm just glad I didn't eat anything beforehand.

Bravo!

Did you digitize your vinyl? Because I have loads of lovely, lovely vinyl in boxes in the basement, going way back to my parents' Beatles albums, and I've always wanted to get them onto my computer but never could be bothered to figure out how.

I only had a portion of it digitized and I didn't actually do it. A DJ friend did it all for me. :P All the rest is iTunes, trades from amigos/coworkers iPods or, uhm, other means.
