Now you know I love an ep when my hopelessly lazy ass has to go back and actually do a little capping.

Capped cuz I just loved this shot. Oh look at that lovely mirroring.

So that's what would happen if Prufrock got a bit out of control? It's The Fly meets Mirrormask meets Predator. Mark Gatiss was good at playing quite the bastard. Possibly one of the bigger bastards we've seen lately. Easily out-bastarded Diagoras and all the Daleks combined. Like a bit of a doughy Dorian Grey. Again, the skience (and plot) is dodgy, but it was so much more enjoyable then last week. So basically, mutated people > mutated Daleks, thus proving humans are made of win, even if they look like they're about to take on Godzilla (and lose) or something.

Although quite a lot of genetic manipulation this season, isn't there? However, "There's no such thing as an ordinary human" which is the Doctor showing his favoritism of the silly apes, but with all the genetic manipulation, I suppose we can't be certain of anything. What it means to be human (and the horrifying results in challenging that) is all fashionable lately.

And the TS Eliot abounded. Particularly Prufrock and "Hollow Men" from what I caught. However, I'm sure there could be some "The Waste Land" (Doctor does mention "dust" at Lazarus, hence the lj-cut title) and bits of the Four Quartets if I looked. If I WERE to go spec crazy for a mo' via Eliot alongside the references to Rose this season and the refs to fire/flames/burning - "burn with me"? If perhaps I'd interpret them in the same way Eliot used those symbols? Like in the Four Quartets, for example. Roses represent divine love and mercy, Fire represents holy fire and (or as) purification. As I'm just musing right now, I haven't really thought this completely thru or anything, but as per Donna's foreshadowing of Martha, Martha would seem to be the companion that tells him to stop. The one who will take the time and respectfully close the eyes of the victims (which Martha does in the first ep to Dr. Stoker and the Doctor mirrors in this ep with Lazarus). Give him back some of that mercy he says he mentioned to evil Bat!Giles he'd lost. Be his balance. The Doctor, on the other hand, exposed to cleansing fire? The Ben Franklin electrocution story? Literally, he's electrocuted in EotD, but aside from purification, the burning/fire also represents understanding or enlightenment. Will the Doctor (and Martha) come to a new understanding (via a trial by fire) at the end of this season? Considering one of this season's huge themes (what does it mean to be human?), I'm thinking the Doctor is going to have an all new perspective of humanity... probably in a big way via Martha (as she is currently the most important human in the story).

Martha Jones, you are a star SHE SO IS! I also love her little Yes, I AM made of awesome shrug in that scene. Martha is such a star, this is the second ep in a row she gets her own companion. In this case her sister Tish, watching her back.

To continue in the general S3 = made of sex, first the Doctor picks up her knickers. Then they've been "busy" doing "stuff". "Stuff" like, for example, running from peril and finding an intimate place to hide in and "reverse the polarity of Martha'sthe neutron flow" (this is also where old school fans squee'd themselves into exhaustion)... polarity reversing, so that's what the kids are calling it now? And the Doctor clearly is James Bond as he can apparently find the time for a little How's Your Father in the midst of said peril.

Although the (old codgery) Doctor is "out of practice", bless him (Martha can help him out there I'm sure). Ten & Martha kind of just "escalate", don't they? This IS the season of naughty euphemisms.

And we got HUGPR0N!

TWICE OVER IN FACT!! ;) And then they went into the TARDIS and did the sex.

Well, you were never really just a passenger, were you? EEEEEeeee!!! And so Martha is officially New Companion YAY!!

Golly. Wonder if informant-of-Doctor-knowledge could possibly be evil? Not just the knowledge but the incidental music OF TEH EVOL kind of gave it away. "This information comes from Harold Saxon himself! You're not safe!" Oh dear. Now who could possibly be this Saxon fellow everyone keeps talking about?

*********

"He's fire and ice and rage. He's like the night. And the storm in the heart of the sun."

Oh. My. GOD.

Someone knows about Time Lords who ISN'T The Doctor/his companion/companion's immediate family!! JACK! EVOL SCARECROWS! CLAUDIUS! OT3ness (why are they all wearing keys? TARDIS keys??)!! TEN&JACK!! JOHN SIMM AND DID I MENTION JACK!!!!OMGOMGOMG!!

And Eurovision can Reverse. My. Polarity. FRAK! Does the world really need another Lordi??

Wait, where's that icon from?

Btw, there's been a fair bit of mirroring of the Doctor this season so far, and it's interesting to note that his doubles always seem to have an interest in Martha or her double (as seen this ep where Tish doubles Martha for a bit).

Interesting, that.

Wait, where's that icon from?

It's the fantastic spinny hug from "Evolution of the Daleks". [livejournal.com profile] renestarko made the icon. ;)

Btw, there's been a fair bit of mirroring of the Doctor this season so far

Rusty does love his mirroring. Ten/Lazarus, Ten/Daleks or Sec & Caan, Ten/Solomon, Ten/Boe, Martha/Tish, Martha/Frank, Martha/Tallulah, Martha (or Ten?)/Lazslo. Then all the episode-to-episode mirroring as well. Just goes on and on. Also often having a lot to do with genetic mad skience (tying back to the genetics/existential theme) from what I can gather?

and it's interesting to note that his doubles always seem to have an interest in Martha or her double (as seen this ep where Tish doubles Martha for a bit).

In danger of sounding excessively obscene, Doctor & doubles do seem to have a propensity of putting their genes on her or in her (AHEM!!!). The Doctor's "genetic transfer", Lazarus giving her a "DNA sample" on her hand, the Daleks planning to turn her into a Hybrid Dalek, Shakespeare wanting to snog (and more with) her and not to mention all this season's filthy filthy sex innuendo. Also a lot of interest in Martha's genetics in general or what she's got going on inside (Judoon's gene scan, Dalek's brainscan). "Gridlock" kidnappers just needed a living body, so not so much with any specific genes, but they still targetted her (they also shot her with drugs, so a physical intrusion there). The focus on Martha could be just cuz she's the Doctor's newest companion and story's representation of humanity (thanks to this season's nemeses interest in humanity, thus could explain the particular interest in Martha being the Doctor's - the protagonist's - pet human)..... or possibly foreshadowing something going on or that will happen specifically to Martha in later eps / the finale?

Interesting indeed.
