Enjoyed the ep. Not as much fun as last week imo, but I did enjoy it. Many good lines all around and the villains were good. Also, when did Shakespeare get so hot (I also loved that initial Martha introduction. Usually it's Ten who wows everyone with the hyperactive razzle dazzle, here Martha walks right up from behind him and totally steals his thunder. Just by standing there. Kind of the reaction I got from her in S&J and not an isolated number of the audience I'm sure. Ten almost looks slightly put-out by that too, hee)?

Random, but what was with the random Dylan Thomas insert? "Rage, rage against the dying of the light" Just to throw in some variety with all the silly Shakespeare quoting or does that Mean Something. It seemed kind of... out of place.

But really, Shakespeare is the greatest genius human EVAR!!111 ? The Doctor has met da Vinci, Isaac Newton, Ace (a human with enough smarts, by his own admission, to cut it in Time Lord Academy)... and a lot of the ep Shakespeare is nicking a lot of the lines from the Doctor. Oh wait! I suppose that's why he's the genius? All his greatest ideas are Doctor-inspired/pinched? Ten is an arrogant ass, but we knew these things. Come to think of it, I have to wonder what is this "right thing" Rose would have apparently "known" to say... I can't imagine it had anything to do with some earth-shattering, overly technical (Doctory) solution to the current enigma, but likely would have been something on the lines of an ample ego stroking. She got a little too good at that in S2.

"Brave new world" as the Doctor says at the beginning of the episode and it is. All new season. All new companion. Although it's interesting that's nicked from Miranda in "The Tempest". The character introduced to this new character (incidentally, a love interest) that turns her tidy little island life upside down. I'd wonder if the Ferdinand in this story is not necessarily a reference to solely Rose the destroyer of 40+ years of (supposed) asexuality, but a dual package between Rose and Martha. One for each of this Miranda's hearts, perhaps? The one who opens the l'amour (or le mort in Fourth-speak) floodgates, literally busts open all the safeguards looking right into the the TARDIS/Doctor's heart(s) Time Vortex itself, the other who perhaps will eventually reap the benefits (and the detriments) of those once opened gates? Or, as it seems, or beating (literally) his hearts started again? First the CPR in S&J, now the beating on the chest and back. Heh. No, not to obvious there or anything.

Although the Doc is frustratingly still sending mixed signals. Can he even help himself? Invites Martha into a bed smaller than your first baby bunk and then goes on about the ex all but saying (or what I could imagine Martha heard) you're not as good as her but NO MATTER! As you're going home tomorrow anyway as I have no use for your uselessness? You feel terrible for Martha in that scene and you're supposed to. No matter what one ships, that line was meant to cut and it did. My GOD, could the Doctor have been a bigger oblivious ass in that scene? "Staring me right in the face and I can't even see it." He said a mouthful and it's apparently only the Doctor's supreme alieness that can continue blathering with all that foot in it.

Yet the chem/UST is still there (at least until Ten opens his damn mouth), which goes on with that theme of the hot coupled with unrequitedness & in denial/oblivious Doctor. At once I'm fanning myself and my heart breaks for Martha (Seriously, I think Ten has a kick in the shins on account after that bed scene).

I also believe I have an inkling what Mercutio must of felt like. With his emo buddy going on (and on... and on) about the lost Rose(lyn). I'm trying to hold back my kneejerk "Get the hell over it Rusty Doctor!" reaction. I fully realize it hasn't been that long since the new girl has come and Rose has gone, but... ugh. I didn't mind the Rose angst in TRB or S&J, but Gareth Roberts was seriously dropping the anvils in this ep and I just didn't care for it. I half wonder if Martha is there not to save Ten (US!) from his apparent Rose-angst/anvil-clanging but the TARDIS. She sick of him sneaking into her dark corners listening to Michael Bolton at ear-shattering decibels and crying sad sad emo tears over the lost Rose(lyn)? I mean, seriously! Cried after reading Book 7? "What a patsy!", says my cold black heart!! Maybe Martha has saved his life from the TARDIS chucking him and his Michael Bolton emo ass out an airlock?

But, despite all of Martha being Not!Rose and Ten apparently being a bit disappointed at that... she still found the right words eventually (not Avada Kedavra, as that would just be wrong, although I kind of wished it had been for Witch Lilith to be bringing on the gratuitous Rose-emo) ... and Adam never stayed married to Lilith (but in fact, she got sucked into a void and now only exists filed away in a dark attic in the TARDIS the recesses of the Doctor's hearts & mind). And JK Rowling has apparently plagerized off Shakespeare.

HA! Although for all the good the season 2 of attempted emo deterrence did him! Ten better not hand over Martha to his psycho lightning-spewing sister(-nee-brother?) and nearly kill ... uh... the Face of Boe or something.

The face of Boe is the Inter-galactic Iroh and Martha is actually Katara

David was really on in this one. And he managed to be such an oblivious ass without giving me the desire to throw something at him. Good job David!!!

Can't wait for next week's show.

totally adore your review, gonna friend you cause I had way too many ditto-moments to ignore while reading this. I adore your Martha love, poor girl has to endlessly battle the presence of Rose. It's aggravating.

I am hoping and am fairly confident the Gallifrey!emo will eventually overtake the Rose!emo where Ten is considered ::is much more intrigued by the dead planet/people angst:: ... or I'm going to have to restock my Nerf supplies and shoot foam projectiles at the screen when Ten kickstarts with the ex-gf!emo. Come ON Time Lord! Put DOWN the Michael Bolton! There is dead planet/people angst to be had. ;)

ah dead planet angst is a pretty sort of angst that needs to be explored to its depths. So stoked for tonight's episode, down with Bolton (haha I hope this becomes a Doctor Who expression, your "put down the MB dammit" I would seriously crack up if that settled!) Nerf *giggle* ow yeah I like you!
