Jan. 26th, 2006 03:30 pmI thought this was cool, an indie adaptation of Lovecraft's The Call of Cthulhu ... in silent movie form". I am a sucker for the whole German Expressionist / The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari look... and the movie makers stayed pretty faithful to said look. Even caking their actors in tons of black eyeliner to make them look all ghostly/gaunt/fawpy. Yay!

I think I might have to get one of these. I don't know what's with Alan Moore movies that don't translate well into movies (From Hell had Johnny Depp in it too... how do you mess that up?) ... but... deco!!

Also, it's Ghibli Thursday again tonight on TCM. The dubbed Only Yesterday (8pmE) and Pom Poko (10:15pmE), the subbed versions will air after. The movies were directed by Isao Takahata who also did Grave of the Fireflies, although the movies have little resemblance between each other (all good though!).
