I haven't updated my journal in ages, so what do I update it with? Something creepy. Of course, I may just think this is creepy because I've seen Ghost in the Shell twenty times (throw in a few viewings of 2001 and Alien for good measure). Then again, perhaps not. This is just... creepy. I hope when I'm in the nursing home, or my grandkids, the robot nurses follow all those Asimovian rules.

In other randomness...
And the movie just goes to show, IF Ratner goes forward with some close incarnation of that script reviewed on AICN, X3 is going to be (amongst more unpleasant things) grotesquely inconsistent.

If ProfX was surpressing Jean's powers since before she came to the Mansion... then that whole speech the Prof gives to Cyclops and Wolverine in the end of X2, about Jean always feeling left behind and hesitant with her powers doesn't really make much sense. OF COURSE she would be feeling hesitant if the Prof was holding her back somehow and he'd *known* he was holding her back on purpose. Unless of course the Prof was just playing opussum in front of Wolvie and Cyke. Which seems really weak to me.

The Prof would also hardly be on speaking terms with Magneto - even by necessity with this apparent X3 (Dark) Phoenix situation - after what he did with the Faux!Cerebro switcheroo. More like, "The next time I see you 'old friend', that little helmet of yours won't save you"... even considering Prof's need for pacifism.

And WHY would Mystique want to be human? I never got the impression Movie!Raven was ashamed or hindered by her mutant status... quite the opposite actually, thanks to "Erik". Rogue, certainly, but not Mystique.

Losing Nightcrawler is a mistake. HUGE mistake. Alan was brilliant in the role. I can't really feel bad about him not being in X3 though, all things considered. *sighs*

What I'd rather hope, since Fox is hellbent on pushing a mutant movie out by Summer '06, that Ratner not continue with movie canon. He make a new movie based on another of the plethora of XM universes or parallel dimensions. A Days of Future Past, Apocalypse-origin, Excalibur, X-Force, Alpha Flight, Savage Land movie or *something* not having to do with Singer's canon. Give the current X-M movie canon back to Bryan Singer. The more I read about Ratner's (or Vaughn's) vision of X3... the more I want to roll up into the fetal position weeping in the corner.

For the sake of my newest obsession...
Just an fyi, but this particular theory / post is an off-set from a thread/theory on The Fuselage here. Since I'm sad and lazy and still at work (it took me long enough to fix the tags), I'm not going to reword it, so it might sound a little odd out of context, so the linkage above could prove to be helpful.

In my version of the Apocalypse theory, I also think the island is capable of bringing on the end of the world and it possesses some sort of AI (possibly primarily using nanotechnology). The nanotech crashed the plane, but it also saved / protected and is still protecting a pre-selected few. However, where our theories differ is that I believe the apocalypse can't be prevented. The island (and those behind the island project) needed the survivors (namely Locke) to start the apocalypse, but also keep a chosen few alive. In essence, go tabula rasa with the human race and recreate it modelled after a designed utopic civilization (possibly like Orwell's 1984 or Huxley's Brave New World or Island). I also believe there's more than one island/place/project facility like the one our survivors are trapped on (to help keep the gene pool fresh in the future).

Thus, I believe the island is basically a combination between Pandora's Box and a new Garden of Eden. The cause of the apocalypse, but also rebirth of a new, potentially/eventually, utopic civilization.

The particular survivors were chosen long before they ever boarded Flight 815 by various agents in connection to the project on the island. It's hinted at in the show, but it seems all the main survivors are connected somehow. Methinks this connection may eventually all boil down to one specific source and it's at the core of the island project. I think some of the parents of the survivors (namely Jack's, Sun's, Shannon's, maybe Sawyer's, Walt's mother and Alex Rousseau's father) may have all possibly been directly involved in the greater project, sort of reflecting the relationship between Fox Mulder and his father in The X-Files. This could explain why some of them are dead and/or had issues with stress and serious emotional problems (Jack's father had a drinking problem and Sawyer's father killed his mother then himself). The main survivors, by various means, were lured/shepherded onto that specific doomed flight. I do agree with you, I think they're all special (leaning towards genetically) but not intended to prevent the apocalypse (since I believe that's inevitable). They're intended to prolong (and perfect) the human race. They were specifically chosen for their forecasted resilience and some for particularly special abilities which seem more pronounced in children in the show, Walt for example. Think Ender's Game and some (the island project leaders posing as General Graff) may be intending children like Walt to play certain roles in the new society. Possibly as the new 'perfect' future leaders and enforcers. I think Walt and the other children's abilities may be centralized around the nanotech (they can manipulate / control it). Of course, the project leaders are the ones controlling the children ... so they foresee themselves as, basically, the new world order of their devicing and control. Like the old saying goes, "The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world".

Of course, there's always going to be conflict. This intended perfect design the project leaders have in mind will definitely not be easy to create. Nor do I think 'utopia' will ultimately be created in their particular image, due to the combination of that aforementioned Ender's Game factor, but also a Lord of the Flies factor. Dissension in the ranks and feuding between the 'enhanced' beings. The 'enhanced' will turn against their 'leaders' and each other. In LOTF terms, I spec there will be a situation similar between Ralph and Jack. Some will try to protect the weak, others domineer or crush it. The 'enhanced' will use the nanotech to start there own little war which could potentially wipe out the last vestiges of humanity.

However, as Paolo Coehlo says in The Alchemist, "When a person really desires something, all the universe conspires to help that person to realize his dream". 'The person' in this case is the island (possibly the AI on the island. Deus ex machina). It's exactly because of this LOTF-type conflict, the survivors of the conflict, that will ultimately create a true utopic civilization, although it's not at all the utopia the project leaders had originally in mind. I do think utopia will be the outcome of the journey one way or another. Ideally, it's children and technology that seem to be the key.

:( re X3 possibilities

*carefully avoids what you wrote about LOST* I started watching it last week. Dunno if it's the first episode, but it probably is. :D It already started when I turned on the TV.

What happened in it?

I knew "Lost" just started in Singapore awhile ago, wouldn't surprise me it was the same elsewhere too.

Er, I've since learned that it's not the first episode. :D The first one I saw was about Michael and his son. It was followed by the episode with Charlie's flashbacks. :) I'm sure there are other (cable and free) channels airing "Lost", but I haven't taken note of their schedules.

Forgot to say this last time -- it's good to see you. :)
