Since I'm bored and I just don't even want to move right now.

Snagging this from [livejournal.com profile] ter369 , since I saw it on her LJ first. ;)

[a] Pick one dozen movies that are ones that you have special feelings about.
[b] Pick a few lines of dialogue.
[c] As people guess the film, strike out that entry.
[d] After the film is guessed, explain why that movie made the list.

1. "The air is full of spices." Sense and Sensibility, ID'd by [livejournal.com profile] stevie_jane
I'll admit. The reason why I chose that quote was for my gratuitous love of Alan Rickman / Colonel Brandon. The voice. The way he had been transfixed with (totally ungrateful, whiny *why are you lusting after that jackass Willoughby when ALAN frickin' RICKMAN is right. there.*) Marianne just prior this line? Secured my love forever. Doesn't hurt the movie is a decent Austen adaptation (Love Emma Thompson too and Kate Winslet is always pretty despite the Marianne factor) and the movie in general is just *pretty*. Maybe not "The Secret Garden" pretty, but it's aesthetically pleasing in it's own right.

2. "What's a gun doing in your trousers?"
"It's for protection."
"Protection from what? 'Zee Germans'?"

3. "Wise leader, forgive me. I am only a fledgling new to flight."

4. "It's when you start to become really afraid of death that you learn to appreciate life. Do you like life, sweetheart?" >Léon (The Professional), ID'd by [livejournal.com profile] innerpoise
I always loved this movie because I think it's my quintessential action/drama mix. There's also that sweet relationship between Leon and Matilda. It actually starts off on the creepy side (veers there periodically throughout the movie), but evolves into this totally sweet surrogate-father/daughter relationship. It's like, anti-Movie!Wolverine/Rogue, NOT W/R (but just as compelling). This also is one of my favorite Gary Oldman movies EVER, next to maybe "Rosencrantz" and POA. Stansfield was snarky and everso evil. That quote above part of the bathroom Matilda confrontation scene? Deliciousness!

5. "Pam Short's broken both her legs and I wanna dance with you."
"That was unexpected."
Strictly Ballroom, ID'd by [livejournal.com profile] manada
One of my favorite movies. I love everything about it. The soundtrack. The hot protagonist in the tight dancer pants. The crazy, creepy Baz close-ups, the quick cut-aways, colors, costumes & make-up. The scene with the above quote in particular... the brief moment you actually see Pam Short screaming and crashing the car (in full competition gown regalia nonetheless) and sleazy lush Ken "I own Spa-o-Rama" Railings sauntering in? Heeee. So damn amusing. However, what I probably love most about it is hearing Spanish spoken with an Australian accent. Vivir con miedo es como vivir a medias!! Total feel good movie. One of Baz Luhrmann's best movies. If Ewan McGregor had been in it, it would have been unadulterated perfection.

6. "You better take care of me Lord. If you don't, you're gonna have me on your hands." Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, ID'd by [livejournal.com profile] innerpoise
Terry Gilliam and Hunter S. Thompson... a match made in adrenotrophic heaven (or hell, as the case may be). Throw in Johnny Depp, Benicio del Toro and Tobey Maguire? And I'm *not* going to watch this?! The movie is funny and bizarre and insane. I love it. It's hard to pick just one quote. I was also || (this close) from using the "holy jesus" and "bat country" lines, but I thought I'd try and make this at least a little challenging.

7. "Robert. When you said you could surprise me, you didn't mean it, did you?"
"Why? Don't you like surprises?"

8. "Never go in there. It's filled with Mr. Walsh's sexual torture devices." The Goonies, ID'd by [livejournal.com profile] manada
Another one of my favorite movies. It's embedded in my childhood. One of my favorite characters was always Mouth. He was an unapologetic, snarky little bastard... and nearly gets his tongue cut out for it. That entire Spanish sequence with Rosalita is one of the funniest scenes in the movie.

9. "Lady, I'm afraid I'm gonna have to ask you to leave the store."

10. "So today's lesson is... you kill each other off 'til there's only one left. Nothing's against the rules."

11. "I didn't ask you to stand in the middle of that automobile racetrack."
"You asked for a, something dramatically different. You got it."
"So did you."

12. "Welcome to the future, brother." X-Men ID'd by [livejournal.com profile] szaranea
The movie that I really think almost single-handedly revived the waffling superhero franchise post-numerous debacles (the latter Superman and Batman movies). I actually didn't want to see "X-Men" due to said debacles... but my brother dragged me to the movie. How grateful I was to him afterwards. I like to think "X-Men" opened the door for Spidey's success (although it's not always as credited doing such) and infused a pretty much dead genre with a long-awaited dose of quality directing, storytelling and acting. Bryan Singer didn't treat the material like it was some ignorant little "comic book movie" or some run-of-the-mill Bruckheimer bombs, boobs and banality extravaganza. A movie that stands on it's own separate from the comics and holds it's own as a movie. Singer also gave the world Hugh Jackman... and for that, I'll *always* be eternally grateful. Patrick Stewart as Professor X and Ian McKellen as Magneto don't hurt things either (if that's not the definition of perfect casting...). Magneto, who has some of the best lines in that movie and the sequel, including the above. Sheer brilliance... and the sequel was even BETTER! Bryan Singer, how we'll miss thee.

Some of the others are familiar, but I can't place them.

I must have done well picking some quotes them. Familiar, but not too familiar. ;)
