I don't actually see Neville/Ginny (much) yet. I can see hints being laid for them to get together, as well as for Ron/Luna. I'm really trying to base this on what I see in the text, not merely what I'd like to see happen, though of course you know how I ship ;)

Ditto and that's what the poll is for ;) ("Barring personal preferences..."). Maybe my cousins have been corrupting me. I got to talking about HP with them and, not that I didn't have these suspicions beforehand (as much as H/Hr gives me the warm & fuzzies, I never had the greatest confidence the story would actually end that way. Which is probably good since the only certainties will come after book 7 comes out. There's always hoping though, right? ;)..... Anyway, I have stronger suspicions (at the moment) the story will end up Harry/Ginny, Ron/Luna and Neville/Hermione. As crazy as that sounds (maybe moreso for the N/Hr bit), the cousins did make some pretty good points.
Although they started out more R/Hr, but we somehow meandered into N/Hr... so it was more like mutual revelations I think.
Of course, I could change my mind in regards to the above tomorrow when I get back home (stuck at the parents house due to bad weather) ... but such is my method of HP predicting. My personal preferences don't tend to change ... but what I think will really happen tends to alter daily.
though of course you know how I ship
Indeed... as you do me of course (note icon). :D I love me some H/Hr... but do I think that's how the story will end? It's possible. My level of confidence in that actual outcome, again, changes daily.

Now you're scaring me! :-O After all the energy Hermione has put into Harry, she's going to end up with Neville? Again, the salient question for me is "who does Hermione love?" I have trouble believing JKR would build up Hermione's role as much as she has (and leave Ginny so much on the periphery) if she didn't intend for Hermione to be pivotal in the eros part of Harry's passage to manhood. Just my opinion. I've probably been reading way too many essays on Portkey ;)

You see, that's the thing. I started looking more at relationships outside Trio-mixing exactly because of Hermione's feelings. Since I do think a (likely Voldemort-tainted) breach in the Trio is coming.... Hermione (despite any romantic feelings she still may have for either boy) won't want to choose between Ron or Harry. I foresee her ultimately going outside the Trio for a romantic relationship. Mostly out of respect of what the friendship once was (she doesn't want to be the cause of anymore conflict). Hermione being disarmed by Neville? I'm sure Hermione would be just as surprised by that revelation as the rest of us would be. ;) Although I believe I have found a hint or two suggesting it or I wouldn't be lingering on it at the moment.
Of course, it stands to reason this whole "sextet" jargon is a bunch of hooey and she ends up with Viktor or something.
If I'm just reading the text and the clues she's leaving (and not taking into account that she leaves misleading clues) I'd have to say Ron/Hermione, Harry/Ginny and Neville/Luna.
The only reason I like Ron/Hermione is because it's like... just there. *g* Maybe it's there to be misleading, but it's still there. :p
I'll cry when it turns out it WAS just there to be misleading. *sobs*
I actually don't think R/Hr are misleading. I do think they will have a relationship of some kind, a few dates maybe (money is on HBP). It's just the permanence of the relationship that's always been sort of dodgy to me. I kind of see them as that couple that builds up the fire, but then burns out too quickly once it really gets started. Except it's more like a gas fire... once it hits the tank... KABOOM! All is left in ruin afterwards.
It's the timing, the situation around them and their pre-existant general antagonism towards each other that's going to burn out the relationship methinks. It's their arguing, compounded by the added pressures of the war, the distance JKR is writing between Harry/Hermione and Ron, Hermione's House Elf crusade (which Ron has never really got behind) versus Ron's own needs, his desires for greatness (back to the Mirror of Erised here) and possibly side effects from the DOM brain attack (considering JKR is a sadist, there will be some nasty repercussions from that). Maybe even Molly may show some dissent in a Ron/Hermione pairing (she won't be totally open about it of course, but she'll make her dissatisfaction known somehow). Basically, I see a huge blazing row between Ron and Hermione and it ends their relationship. They either don't make-up because there's too much damage done to the friendship or something bad happens to one of the Trio and they simply can't make-up. What happens? That PS/SS chess game foreshadowing kicks in and Ron is "taken" by the "White Queen" ... whatever that means.
I'm also not suggesting Ron gets pissed at Hr because she's canoodling with Harry or anything... but I do think JKR is writing distance between H/Hr and Ron. It's really noticeable in OOTP. H/Hr off doing their own thing while Ron is playing Quidditch or whatnot. I think JKR was very purposeful writing Ron's almost irrational jealousy of Viktor. Not necessarily dropping the anvils about Ron's feelings for Hermione (although that's part of it)... but to show us how jealous and possessive Ron can be when it comes to Hermione. And not just with Viktor, but brief moments (in OOTP) he's suspicious of Harry too! Foreshadowing? I think so. I think in HBP, Ron (possibly also influenced by nasty DOM brain scars) is going to think something naughty is going on between H/Hr due to all the time they're off alone ... but in reality, it's just H/Hr trying to figure out a way to help Grawp, Dobby or some other problem pressing on them (or just Harry).
