Steamboy & Spidey 2 ramblings

retro_eidasThis goes out to all my anime geek friends out there, but there's a new 6 min. trailer for Steamboy at The Movie Box. Unfortunately, it's all in Japanese, but it's from the guy who made Akira (Katsuhiro Otomo), so it's pretty and looks all kinds of cool. Steamboy does strike me as a bit more grounded in the story department compared to Akira, which was just batshit at the end. Inflating Tetsuo? Oy.
Fucking Spidey 2.
I kid you not. I *didn't* like the first movie. But this one? I can't even explain it. I think it had a lot to do with the chem between everyone that gripped me in this film, but for some reason didn't do anything for me in the first. Particularly TM, James Franco (guh) and Alfred Molina (the surprise guh). Was one supposed to like Doc Ock? Because I do! He's chunky and crazy and evil (it was the tentacles)... but I don't care! Alfred Molina is such a good actor. He's coming en par to my Ian McKellan fetish. Like, just no... but OH YES! I'm not even making any sense anymore.
It's not good though that I am part anime fan... anyone who knows anything about anime and tentacles? Yeah. Very wrong.
Sometimes Tobey does nothing for me. Sometimes his facial expressions can even scare me ("NOOOOOO!!!!!" :cringes:). However, when the boy is on the mark... he. is. on. the. mark. Guh. GUH! I don't know how he does that. One second, it's blah blah I'madorkobsessedwithMaryJane blah blah... HELLO! Shirtless! IwanttolickhimWEEEE Suddenly his chin/neck doesn't look funny and his eyes aren't so buggy and he's teh hawt. He's making me bipolar damn it!
Although I am left wondering what's the explanation about the tattered Spidey suit. I know he made the suit and the fact he snagged back his suit from JJ he likely has no spares... but how is it the things get so masterfully repaired by the end of the movie (or in between, ex/ Train fight to final Ock/Spidey showdown)? That's spandex. Have you ever tried mending spandex? I guess he only makes new ones when he has absolutely no other choice. God forbid he should swing around New York with barely anything on him.... No one wants to see that.
It would probably up the female-persuasion crime rate exponentially. Just to see him non-clothed.
This movie had three things I love in abundance. Good angst. Pretty. Good chem and/or HoYay. It's why I love the X-Men movies and it's why I loved Spidey 2. Is it wrong I still want my never-gonna-happen Peter/Harry hook up? The bitchslaps practically had me squeeing. But now Harry has to go schizo and evil to become Gobby Jr. which just rubbed vinegar in the never-gonna-happen wounds. Can I at least get a Aragorn/Boromir forehead kiss? Something? :crickets:
As I love Ian, this guy makes me love him for his mad acting skills... and "Butterfingers". heeee I don't know a lot about the Spidey comics in general, but I do know Movie!Ock is an improvement. Didn't Comics!Ock have an awful bowl haircut and some kind of weird Norman Bates-ish relationship with his mommy?
