... But, you're saying, tell us something we don't know. He just is so cool though, it *must* be said.
I found this kind of weird... but a few of y'all have said that Ron makes you drool (because of Vincent, usually). I never found Ron all that attractive. I think he's a great actor and sometimes think he's kind of sweet ("City of Lost Children"). I think it must be that sweetness combined with the coolness combined with the HB badassness... he somehow ends up hot in "Hellboy"? *I* wanted to kiss Hellboy. Many times. He was so smitten with Liz it made me go awwww (Selma factor and all). I wanted to hug him when he saw Broom's body. I guess I'm in the club now... Ron is the hotness (Now if I can get my hands on "Beauty and the Beast" the fangirliness would be complete). Did I love the movie though? Eh. Not as good as I thought it was going to be, but I liked it. I'm going to say this many times, but Ron MADE the movie. I love his Hellboy, so much. The movie didn't take itself too seriously and it was a fun summer popcorn movie for the most part. Ron alone was definitely worth the admission price.
*Without* Ron, this movie probably wouldn't have been much at all. He has some help from Abe and Kroenen (Cronen? sp?), but beyond them Ron pretty much holds the whole movie together. Sequel needs a better story to match up with the action and more pay-off in the end. No Selma would be nice too, but fat chance of that happening (creative continuity... a blessing and a curse).
Abe was cool, but I hope there's more of him in the sequel. He kind of disappears at the end. He's completely excluded from the big final showdown. An aquatic blue ducimal Niles Crane with a healthy dose of Jean Grey. How can you not love that? Eat your heart out Namor.
Meyers (aka, the Robin to Hellboy's Batman) was alright. He was the straight man / sidekick and played it well enough. There's this incident with a rock that was pretty amusing. heeee Although that's more thanks to the Ron-love than Meyers. I wouldn't mind seeing more of him in the sequel.
The Liz scenes? Ron saved all of them. HB's love for Liz was so very sweet, it helped me ignore Selma's monotone. Never been a fan of hers. She has zero screen charisma. What's with the boring female leads this summer? First Selma, then Beckinsale in VH? What gives? Random: Glad to know del Toro seems to be a fan of "The Ring". Don't know what I'm going to do with that info, but... rah.
Rasputin.... for an archnemesis he didn't seem to do very much IMO. Smarmed around a bit and wore a big, dumb-looking lightening glove, but beyond that? Not all that exciting of a villain from where I was sitting. His bitchy girlfriend from the Eastern Block seemed busier (not a very good actress though... which is saying something considering Selma Blair is also in this movie). Kroenen (the baton-knife wielding clockwork nazi henchman) was the one getting the evil work out, but his own vanquishing felt anticlimactic. Too easy. I figured he'd put up more of a fight, especially toe-on-toe with Hellboy... but no dice. I'm hoping there's a slim chance he's around for HB2, but not holding my breath. Elektra and Halle Berry in "Die Another Day" could have REALLY took some lessons from this guy of how to really wield a blade. He was doing the scary bad-ass role some justice (but as I said, his death should have served him better). The whole end felt kind of anticlimactic come to think of it. Terrible squidmonsters from hell (which is in outer space?) are coming!! OH NO!! Better send Hellboy in! Eh. Like I said, hopefully next time there will be a little more of story to go with all the action... They've got their brilliant male lead, they just need to give him some more to work with.
[geek]Am I the only on here that's seen "The Devil's Backbone" by Guillermo del Toro? Probably, right? If I'm not per chance.... take notice of the glass cases Doc Broom points Meyers too at the beginning of the movie. There's a "devil's backbone" fetus pickled in rum. heee[/geek]
As for the trailers, there was one for "The Punisher". It still does nothing for me. Frank Castle in Tampa? I don't really know tons about The Punisher comic, but.... Tampa? It just doesn't seem like the place a big bloody revenge story should take place. It's too "Bad Boys". Then there's that unfortunate Drowning Pool song they insist on playing in every trailer. Just to make sure the three minutes doesn't go by without a headache. Major meh.
Also... saw a "Van Helsing" trailer. Hugh's shirtless roar and Tarzan impersonation on the big screen? Quite nice I must say. Go away Kate Beckinsale (are corsets and velvet fineries the token Vampire Slayer Wench outfit in *random time in 1800s Sommersverse* history? How can you breath in those much less slay Dracula brides?) and those vampire chicks still look all kinds of "Army of Darkness". Did they give Hugh a "boomstick" ... and WHY is my mind taking that somewhere it shouldn't? God! What's WRONG with me...::envisions Hugh!Tarzan::... oh yes. That. Mmmmm. Best. movie. ever. Damn Hugh and his cruel hotness.
