Dean's holding one of Death's scythes. They first showed up in "Death Takes A Holiday" and we know they're capable of killing Reapers. Possibly also capable of killing Death?

CRAZY CRACKSPEC: Death knows something Team Free Will doesn't know re: the Horsemen Rings? Also knows what will happen when Dean has them all / puts them all on? I'm still clinging to the crack that Dean might be this guy and Death knows exactly who Dean really is. Hence why Death didn't put up a fight. He didn't want to have that kind of bad juju to come back at him when Dean finally woke up?
Random factoids about Abaddon and how he might be relevant to our interests:
- He plays a big role in Revelation and - unless that turns out to be what Death calls himself - he hasn't shown up yet.
- "Only an angel can kill another angel" and Dean just killed Zachariah. Of course, that could have just been Uriel being an arrogant dick (as if it was probably inconceivable to him some monkey or whatever lower species could ever take out an almighty angel). However, let's say Uriel was being very literal about that. Abaddon is "the angel of the bottomless pit" according to Revelation.
- Also about that "bottomless pit" business, Famine gives Dean the Bad Touch and tells him, "That's one deep, dark nothing you've got there, Dean."
- Not to mention Dean was immune to Famine, apparently because of this "deep, dark nothing" inside him.
Apathetic, depressed Dean keeps going on lately about he's tired of fighting who he really is. He might have been speaking honestly there, but maybe not even knowing himself the extent of that honesty. Dean is a suprsekrit angel and he isn't aware of it? Maybe Dean will remember who/what he is when he puts the Horsemen Rings on? Snap him out of the magic amnesia / restores his grace?

Also perhaps Death has decided that he isn't as big a fan of the apocalypse as he'd thought he'd be? Maybe he's throwing in with Team Free Will? That'd be neat.

Date: 2010-04-22 12:39 am (UTC)IDEK what's been with my brainmeat lately, the SPN speccing part of it has been in overdrive. Though, like others, I've been suspecting any Dean Otherness that might be part of his character involved angelness for a long time. It's all spilling out again.
That certainly could be too. I always preferred the idea of a more neutral figure for Death. Lucifer might have raised him from wherever, but he's not on Team Luci anymore than he's on Team Michael or Team Human. He shouldn't be on anyone's side.

Date: 2010-04-22 12:56 am (UTC)And it's making more and more sense. I mean only angels are supposed to be able to kill angels. Dean stared right into Zachariah's eyes when he died and I've been under the impression that's the same as seeing an angel out of their vessel. Dean is without a doubt something more then just plain human now. Least to me.
Death needs to be neutral for the world to function. I'm hoping that Death ends up being neutral. Maybe he was just locked up and was looking for a way out, but now that he has it is willing to step back. Or something.

Date: 2010-04-22 01:03 am (UTC)Which seems to be directly book-ended with those poor bastards in the beginning of the ep that couldn't only not take Michael's true voice, but got their eyes burned out in his presence too. Zachariah might not be Michael, but even Anna going nuclear in 4.10, Anna warned everyone to shut their eyes. Obviously, she said that for a reason. Anna was Castiel's superior, ditto Zachariah. Zach goes nuclear and Dean's looking right at him, eyes wide open.
when he died and I've been under the impression that's the same as seeing an angel out of their vessel.
That's what I've been thinking right along too. Like one big burst of their grace all at once vacating their vessel.
Dean is without a doubt something more then just plain human now. Least to me.
He's been that way to ages for me, though the writing hasn't been necessarily anvil-dropping with it until lately. Srsly? Going to Hell (the Underworld) and coming back from it? That's some big time mythic stuff.

Date: 2010-04-22 01:26 am (UTC)Death needs to take better care of his weapons. That scythe looks all rusted. Shame on you, Death. Dean knows better.
ALso: Ahhh, Crowley, I ♥ you, you magnificent bastard.

Date: 2010-04-22 10:09 am (UTC)Fuck. yeah. (Don't worry though, Sam, Cas and Bobby. He's all sappy for you guys).
And Alastair said Dean had "so much potential". I've... always wondered about that. But in some versions, Abaddon has a good and bad side. Dean would be like Bruce Banner or something. LOL

Date: 2010-04-22 05:30 pm (UTC)Hell, just think of all those times Dean was confronted with his identical Other or Evil self ("Skin", DALDOM, "The End"). Dean's usually killed most of them too. Except for Future!Dean, Samifer got him. Though Sam and Castiel could be described as other facets of Dean too in a way (as Dean is a facet of both of them in turn).
And "Roy" and "Walt" were wise to kill Dean in "Dark Side of the Moon". It didn't stick, of course, but... I wouldn't have wanted to be them post-DSotM. If Castiel didn't already track their asses down, "Roy" and "Walt" are quite messily dead now, I imagine.

Date: 2010-04-22 02:10 am (UTC)I had an intelligent reply planned out, but it kinda got wiped away when I re-read the post, and saw this:
Famine gives Dean the Bad Touch and tells him, "That's one deep, dark nothing you've got there, Dean."
...and my brain decided to make it: "Famine gives Dean the Bad Touch, and tells him: you and me baby ain't nothin but mammals, so lets do it like they do on the discovery channel
excuse me while I go DIE from those mental images XD (and now that song is stuck in my head)
