Lost in Austen
Sep. 18th, 2008 11:27 amI was wondering whether I should fess-up about my enjoyment of this series. I feel partly like I've been lured into someone's (admittedly, quite entertaining, I suppose that's all that should matter) self-insert Mary Sue crackfic... but also can't really feel too ashamed about it.

It's probably all a dream or she's saying goodbye, as it should be I suppose, since Lizzie/Darcy is quite a fantastic story...in P&P, as we saw that rel'p develop. Sad they seemed to get us to latch onto this all new one that isn't half bad and with Doomed From The Start stamped all over it.
I quite like Amanda/Wickham-not-a-libetine as well, even though she probably has about the same chance of landing him as she does Darcy.
Collins can still shove off though. This version is particularly creepy. I was hoping for a moment there drunk Bingley pulled a Dick Cheney on him, but no such luck. My guess he'll get to live and even get Charlotte, but obviously means his marriage to Jane is over. He gets sent off to Africa, probably by Lady Catherine's insistence, and Africa hopefully beats all the minger out of him and becomes somewhat decent before he conveniently runs into Charlotte.
Georgiana? Get thee to a nunnery! Hopefully before the creepy in her character gets overwhelming. Was I the only one getting major bunny boiling vibes from her? There was no actual maiming of bunnies, but she did spectacularly in wantonly ruining Wickham's reputation (or at least the brotherly friendship with Darcy if that's still canon here) just because he rejected her.
In the end, I predict Amanda will hop out of the Georgian rabbit hole and end up finding someone that looks remarkably like Elliot Cowan in a wet shirt, smolders like Darcy but has Wickham's surprisingly un-libertine, stand-up personality. I've accepted her Mary Sueness, might as well run with it.
