This Deep Purple song was annoyingly in my head through the whole ep. To me, it's the go-to classic rock song of being haunted by the past. Which seems to be Bobby's trouble in this ep... and usually the source of the super-sized angsty issues in this show of just about everyone.

Zombie hand through the ground was a shout-out to... a whole lot of zombie movies (and "Carrie"), but in SPN, tied right back to ~~Zombie Jesus~~ Dean climbing out of the ground in "Lazarus Rising".

"Bobby is like a father to us."
"Death is coming for me."

Not a new prediction, but I'm still thinking Bobby = God or God's vessel. Despite what the ep/Bobby says, I have my doubts Death only targeted Bobby (and Dean was paired off with him in the ep) cuz he's in the cheering section of Team Free Will. Sure the angels sort of act like the mafia and they don't go after the person they're holding the grudge against, but they also target those that person loves. However, that reasoning doesn't seem quite enough with the diligence Bobby was targeted. Even going as far as resurrecting his cremated wife. The angels can't be dumb enough to think, even if D-S lost Bobby's support in said cheering section, that would be enough for D-S to say yes. So, I'm leaning towards the breaking of Bobby's spirit more to do with Bobby himself rather than just D-S losing that moral support. The Horseman/Angel of Death and Lucifer possibly trying to break God's vessel?

Bobby=God or Luci trying to lure Bobby over to his side, try to turn him off the righteous path. Lucifer seduced Nick in 5x01 by way of his dead wife & child and the unfairness of their deaths, thus getting Nick resentful and angry at God. Lucifer aggravated Nick's grief and used it against him. It's possible he could be doing the same to Bobby. He also tried the same with Sam in 5x03 (appearing as Jessica) and then as Samifer with Dean in 5x04. With Castiel in AAH, the reminders of him being an outcast from Heaven and his family consider him a criminal worthy of execution, no better than the devil himself. Sort of the angel MO in general too, as I mentioned, they're like the mafia and target those their mark loves as well as the mark him/herself. Nick needed to let go and move on, but being vulnerable from his loss, Lucifer exploited that vulnerability and won over Nick. The key seems to be not just moving on and letting go of the past, but also not succumb to that grief and the psychoses that can stem from it, even if aggravated (in SPN, usually the obsessive want of revenge). Hell and Heaven are going to use these methods to try their hardest to turn Dean's and Sam's allies against them (Bobby and Castiel), and obviously try to turn Sam against Dean, vice versa.

Now they've spent an entire ep trying to break Bobby's spirit. Not to mention his paralysis and thus creating (or exacerbating) a deep depression that's bordering on suicidal as we see in TCCODW. Which is interesting and worrisome. I'd hate to think Bobby (or Castiel) could turn the Judas for Dean or Sam, but this isn't reassuring.

No appearance from the Horseman/Angel of Death again, just like his non-appearance in AAH. I suppose that makes sense considering Death is suppose to be the last of the Horsemen to appear. Though technically Pestilence was supposed to be the first, so they've already fudged the order. Eh.

If Bobby doesn't end up taking a trip upstairs when this season is over, I hope he and that sheriff hook-up. I liked her, she reminded me of Ellen (though it was obvious she had a zombie loved one stashed away due to her total complacency of zombie!Clay, as opposed to screaming in terror or shock). They're both widowed, she's likely traumatized from these events and the only one she could really talk to about it to get answers or understand what happened and why would be Bobby. Both of them need to let go and move on.

"You've never been in love." Was that just another reminder of how Dean's life sucks or does that tie into them telling us a few eps ago he's never had a long-term relationship? Are they dropping hints or something? Is Dean going to fall in love?

Next week: Dean and Sam ~~take a soma holiday~~ go to Heaven. Of course, Heaven looks just like Canada. I like how Heaven, just like the djinn fantasy world in WIAWSNB, had Mary alive, but John isn't in the picture. I realize that's because they can't get/afford Jeffrey Dean Morgan, but it fits with Dean's mindset as of WIAWSNB as mentioned. Even after learning more about his mom and her being a hunter and responsible for the "family curse", so to speak. Basically, despite his continued veneration of his father ("Fallen Idols"), Mary is still Dean's personal God(dess), not John.
