New S4 pics... with Martha bonus! YAYZ!
She's got a ring on her finger which, understandably, folks are wondering if it means she's engaged/married. Possibly. As a woman could only ever get over someone by being suddenly married off. *insert massive eyeroll here*
Although - as my brain is full of crackspec as anyone who reads my Who posts probably knows at this point - I'm wondering if it might be a modified version of this ring....

I'm thinking a Master possession in S4 is all but an inevitability. It's not only an old skool thing he does, but he totally has no body now (as Jedi!Doctor burninated it).
I do have to admit, as long as she doesn't end up Truly Dead by the end of it, I think the idea of Master!Martha is kind of hot. However, that could just be me desirous to see (Not)Martha kick the Doctor's scrawny ass ("Second best", I'll show him "second best"), so I could be a little biased.

Then there's all that "equal" stuff from Freema - and I believe Rusty as well - were saying about Martha's arc re: her relationship with the Doctor.... and wondering how literally they might have meant that.

I couldn't agree with you more! I love the idea of Martha moving on and finding someone who ADORES her and lets her know how much she is made of WIN all the damn time BUT...it's a bit patronizing and 'convenient' for her to be suddenly paired and/or married off...like they hope everyone forgets the way her character was treated for pretty much a WHOLE DAMN SEASON...and then *poof*...she's gotta man nao, everything's forgiven!
Then one year from now:
*whew*...the writers dodged THAT bullet, didn't they?
Anyway...it looks like a band of diamonds...pretty! I hope he's good looking and punches the Doctor in the face straight away.
"And THAT'S for making one of the best things that ever happened to you feel worthless and less than she should have, you inter-galactic douche-bag!"

I know it depends on how long it's been since the last time Martha and the Doctor met, but... really does seem very quick (and, inevitably, convenient). She had to take her exams, find a position, do her doctor thing AND find herself a husband? I have to admit the paranoid side of my brain is curious on if this fiance/husband really is on the up and up or he's got some nefarious secret (he's possessed by / working for the Master?).

Pretty much why I suspect they're doing this, so yeah, I already know I'm going to be less than thrilled about the existence of that storyline.

I was hoping for somebody from UNIT (as a way to finally bring them full-fledged back into the plot somehow)... or just have SOME kind of story (either good or evil). Although either he has some story or he's Mr. Peel and we never see him. I don't think I want another Gwen/Rhys subplot.
whom we haven't met yet but will in fact make the Doctor twitchy with jealousy.
Heh. Yeah. He'll probably be all happy and congratulatory. Even though for all intents and purposes (considering what an arrogant prick he is), he should be jealous, if not finally realizing what he lost, but even without that interest since everything has to be about him. His companion who he treated like shit for a series dare love someone else more? Curse her!!
Hey, I can dream. And stop giving me gorgeous plot bunnies for which I en't got the time to write them.
*is very eager for some Vali updates at Teaspoon*

Someday I will be through writing this blasted Ten/Martha novel and there will be! (Not that I'm complaining, Martha, you're lovely. Oh, and Ten, I can occasionally tolerate you too.)

Also because that way he wouldn't shaft the fic I want to write where Martha tumbles way too quicky into a relationship with Milligan because when the TARDIS and all its telepathic safeguards go away her PTSD comes crashing in like whoa and sleeping with the guy she saw killed in front of her freaks her out so she starts telling him about the Year That Wasn't and he thinks she's fucking nuts and packs her off to psychiatric where she discovers that she really wants to slug the Doctor in the jaw and languishes until Lucy!Master shows up to claim her and remind her of the first time they actually met, and—no subject
That is an interesting idea, I just spec'd on someone else's journal wondering if this might be her attempt to grasp at normalcy or the mundane (not unlike the Doctor's nostalgia about "2am, getting a taxi home", like he's at once compelled and repelled by the domestic). An attempt to wind down from the insanity of her life previous, but at the same time, unable to let it go completely (her working for Torchwood? Meeting the Doctor again and likely getting involved in some adventure instead of just staying home with bf/fiance/hubby?).
There really is just... no way at all I'm seeing how, whoever this is, (unless they're TW/UNIT or an ex-companion) understanding or even knowing about her other life. Milligan couldn't/wouldn't know. Briefly, I thought it might be that Morgenstern (http://doctorwho.time-and-space.co.uk/coppermine/displayimage.php?album=89&pos=530) (the brown-nosy med student in S&J who was trying to make nice with the Judoon with less than stellar results), he at least seemed inclined to believe the alien invasions were real. They could have gotten to know each other again during the renewed training / exams. But yeah, if she's starving for the mundane, then by the looks she'd have hit the jackpot with that dry Morgenstern guy if he's the one. Ugh.

Then here comes "unromantic" Donna and then the return of Rose and there goes Nu Who, flushed down the void toilet and enter my denials of ever having watched it.

Don't worry, I'm on it, and without the slightest compunction. I really don't see Nu Who as more canonical than, say, the books—and my standards may be somewhat arbitrary, but fuck it. It's not like we're deciding what to put in the Bible/Torah/Quran/Tripitaka, here.

"Oh gee, we went overboard on the unrequited thing last series. I know! Let's make Martha married next series so we get that problem out of the way for good."
Then commence with me doing a thorough head-desking over their stupidity.
Plus, having her married will give batshippers something to crow about, AGAIN. I do not want to deal with their joyous cries as they realize that horrible Martha is finally away kept away from the Doctor for good.

It's really cheap. It also permeates with the writers whole sexist notion women pretty much live to entrap some bloke in a mortgage and babies. Now that they've got Martha, seemingly, with that ring on her finger? Well, guess she fulfilled that pesky instinctual need which is forever a thorn in the poor Doctor's side with all the human womenz he seduces into the TARDIS wanting to entrap him. *insert several dozen massive eyerolls here*

If she is in a relationship, then it must fail because of all these reasons, and she realizes the only place she belongs now is the Tardis. ESPECIALLY WHEN THE DOCTOR REALIZES THE SAME THING and finally takes responsibility for his part of their relationship.
Now that I think about it, the most annoying thing about her "crush" in S3 is that her little parting speech makes HER accept full responsibility for their relationship and allows him to have NONE. That's what's needed in S4. The Doctor has to acknowledge that he seduced and was seduced by Martha Jones. Yes. (And the chances are....nil.)

I guess it boils down to that ole malady all us womens suffer from of living to try to snag a man for marriage and babies. Martha must suffer from it mighty fierce if they have her (nearly?) hitched off already! Of course, I'm being sarcastic, but this is coming from the writer that believed Martha leaving the Doctor is the bravest thing she ever had to do (not, you know, walk through the apocalypse for a year, leave everyone she loved to an uncertain, dangerous fate and suffer 1913 for months fearing some lurking alien threat practically all alone baring the psychic kid). Rusty is funny like that. He's also funny about the Doctor bearing too much culpability for anything, possibly fearing how the kiddies would react to that in seeing the Doctor, at all, in the wrong (even if it's about damn time he effing SHOULD BE!!! How many more times is Rusty going to give him a Get Out Of Dickhead Jail Free card?)

Actually, she doesn't even belong on the TARDIS anymore—not in a permanent residence/lifestyle, I mean; she's certainly fit for a good long stint of travel there if she wants it—simply because the Doctor was an asswipe, and the Doctor changed her, and the Doctor is the Doctor, which means that he needs someone who's not just a comrade, but a companion. He's been at that pattern for 900 years (sez Nine; personally, going from Four's comments, I don't believe it for a second—it's been way longer). He's not going to be changing any time soon. He loved being with Romana like mad because she was at his level, on the Hero-Mojo scale, but she had to leave him for the same reason. Martha's in that league, now, and I can't see her being able to hand him his test-tubes, even on a timeshare basis where he occasionally hands her hers, forever.
So I guess the point I had buried in there somewhere is that the only place Martha belongs isn't the TARDIS. It's a TARDIS of her own.
