"Van Helsing" animated prequel & "Vampire Hunter D"

I was just wandering around AICN and I spotted this report of apparently an animated prequel based on "Van Helsing". AICN also posted pictures to contrast and compare.

Is this going to be anime? That box is looking like a pretty far cry from Yoshitaka Amano, but then Amano is fucking amazing. NOT an easy person to emulate. I suppose we shouldn't judge by the cover.

Too bad Hugh didn't do the voice of Wolvie in "Wolverine's Revenge". It might have made the game more playable.

The one, the only.

Those who are making the "Van Helsing" and VHD comparisons... I'm thinking that is more warranted then ever.

Universal seems to be throwing a lot of weight behind VH. This animated prequel, I also heard rumors about an animated series as well as a theme park ride. They better hope VH doesn't totally bomb.

Oh, holy fuck! I KNEW Van Helsing looked familiar. I kept saying it was familiar, where had I heard it, I know I've seen it before. I kept even thinking it was an anime. (By the way, there's a vampire anime called Hellsing (http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,713,drvfsa,hellsing.html). It was the anime I kept thinking of until I read this.) Those bastards! VHD was one of the first animes I ever watched, and I loved it. The new one, Bloodlust, was just as good. They better not screw this up, because, dammit, VHD is too good to rip off like that!

I don't think they're basing VH on VHD technically, but yeah. There is a definite resemblance, in the clothes and the ambience. James Cameron has taken inspiration from various anime, I probably wouldn't be surprised Stephen Sommers is too. Although from what I hear about the VH storyline, it doesn't sound anything like "Vampire Hunter D" or "VHD: Bloodlust". It does resemble "Hellsing" more in that respect, but I'd say "Hellsing" is a lot more FUBAR. ;)
