HP & HBP Predictions

First of all, since I won't have an internet connection for the next couple days starting tomorrow (my parents are pathetically sans internet. Not even AOHell)...

HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all the folks on my FL!! Even if you're not of the American persuasion, thanks anyway. ;)

Now for the subject line... This is miserable. It's 1:30 in the morning and I have to get up in like five hours to drive to my parents tomorrow as I quite literally gave a blood oath to my mother that I'd swore I'd come early. *sighs* Insomnia sucks. So here I am typing out HBP predictions that I've been kicking around the past few weeks. *sighs*

HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF BLOOD PRINCE -- PREDICTIONS

--Harry accidentally apparates. Again. He did it once before to escape from getting beat up by Dudley at school. This time he does it, maybe, because he has one of those nasty *Voldemort-connection* dreams and sees another friend about to get attacked a la Arthur Weasley. Possibly the Grangers this time?

--If the Grangers (or otherwise) don't get attacked, then I think the war might come right to the Dursley doorstep. It seems Jo was threatening this in the last book with the Dementors on Privet Drive.

--Whichever the case above, it will be the "shortest stay at Privet Drive yet" according to JKR.

--We learn more about Petunia and Harry's aunt not being as ignorant of the WW as she always seemed to exude. This was already hinted at in OOTP. Upping the ante, I actually suspect Dudley came about or was saved somehow because of magic. Petunia and Dudley themselves aren't necessarily magical (Petunia possibly, but not holding my breath)... but I have this whole theory about Petunia going to Lily because she couldn't conceive and she tried every muggle medical means there was, to no avail. Totally desperate and exhausted every muggle option (afraid Vernon may leave her if she couldn't give him the legacy he wants. I don't see Petunia or Vernon keen on adoption either), Petunia goes to her sister for help. Lily agrees because Petunia is still her sister (despite how she's always treated her), but she asks Dumbledore for assistance because the magic Petunia is asking for is beyond her. This is how Petunia (and indirectly Dudley) became indebted to not only Lily, but Dumbledore too ("Remember my last") and how Petunia - by her own choice - became irrevocably bound to the magical world. Why Petunia kept Harry in the first place and why she agreed to get involved in yet another magical ritual/contract (blood protection) to protect her loathsome magical nephew. Petunia knows what she did (but yet she still managed to be more resentful of Lily than ever because she had to ask for her freakish help at all, Lily had no problem conceiving herself and the nature of the help has come with so many inconvenient & dangerous strings attached), but obviously Vernon is totally ignorant of it all. If he discovered his wife partook in a magical ritual to conceive his son, I doubt he'd be too thrilled.

OR, Petunia was completely desperate to land a man, so she went to Lily for a love potion (think Hoffman's Practical Magic).

--Harry may get special permission to spend the rest of the summer at Hogwarts. There he can be safe and begin any extra studying / training he's likely going to need for the impending battles. This will keep him busy, but despite this...

--Harry will be grieving for Sirius. Also probably experiencing some major guilt (if not at the beginning of HBP, then perhaps later on) over the incidents at the DOM, not only with Sirius, but his friends' injuries as well.

--Dementors will return some time in the story and we possibly may learn how to destroy one. Expecto Patronum, as powerful as it is, only seems to ward them off. How would you destroy a dementor?

--Ron (and Molly?) encourages Ginny to get in a relationship with Harry. As is hinted at in Ron's "furtive" look at Harry at the end of OOTP and that last chess game. However, since I am taking OOTP at face value, I do think Ginny has indeed gotten over Harry. Which leads me to think...

--Whatever relationship starts between Ginny/Harry, neither is really invested in it. It exists more to humor Ron and/or Molly. Ginny has the wavering eye and methinks Harry won't do much in keeping her attention. The relationship will end before it really begins, however, Ron won't give up hope. Which leads to more conflict if...

--Harry gets in a relationship with Luna Lovegood. It's duration or seriousness is up in the air but more importantly...

--Ron won't be very happy about this relationship and he takes it the wrong way. My sister wasn't good enough for him... but Crazy Luna Lovegood is? What that hell?. However, this should be the least of Ron's concerns because....

--Hermione likes Harry and she has for quite some time. Something she's tried to hide, rather successfully, the first four or five books (but I do think it's possible it's started to leak out in OOTP)... but, as far as HBP, nothing may come of it.

--The Locked DOM Door is opened. Possibly with a "Flying Key" (A hint from the PS/SS Locked Room/Flying Key task?)

--Someone else besides Harry (maybe many someones) conjures a Patronus to save a life or lives. Possibly members of the DA? Speaking of...

--The DA returns. Bigger, better and bolder than ever. Harry is still teaching it.

--Neville has a more prominent role. He also becomes closer to Harry.

--Following in Harry's example, Neville gives a tell-all interview for The Quibbler. In the same *naming names* vein as Harry. The impact of this interview will likely be taken in the same way Harry's was, but possibly a little different for the fact Neville's parents are purebloods. This is important because....

--Blood status will be more significant then ever. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince seems to be a rather glaring indicator of this.

--Sybil Trelawney makes a Third Prophecy. It's all about the mythology. Sybill of Roman (?) myth made *three* famous prophecies.

--Neville gets a new wand. His powers develop even more. The wand chooses the wizard you know. ;)

--Because of The Quibbler interview, his own role in the DOM fight and his closeness to Harry, Neville becomes a celebrity in his own right. He also gets more popular with the ladies...

--Even Cho Chang pursues him, but I think Ginny is going to beat her to him. In light of Cho's missed chance at Harry, her eye turns to Neville when she finds out what kind of great guy and hero he actually is. She also may be trying to make Harry jealous (in the Roger Davies asked me out once sort of way), but it won't work since Harry is quite over her. Ginny winning Neville may be foreshadowed in the OOTP Quidditch Final. "Ginny catching the Snitch right under Chang's nose." (according to Ron, not verbatim) True, "the Snitch" could have been Harry... but since, again, I do honestly think Ginny is indeed over him, it has to be Neville. I also got the distinct impression Neville fancies Ginny something fierce in OOTP, thus I think there's going to be some follow-up to that. Neville deserves a little lovin'.

--Ron (who has a plethora of his own issues he's currently dealing with) may resent Harry and Neville's new-found camaraderie. Although, as I said, poor Ron has issues. He's not really acting like himself unfortunately. Much in part due to...

--The brain attack Ron suffered from OOTP is still effecting him and effecting him pretty badly. That whole bit from Madam Pomfrey about "thoughts leave deeper scarring then almost anything else" unfortunately screamed some nasty foreshadowing. I just feel like - with all the bits of (forboding) foreshadowing not just in OOTP but prior - I won't want to be Ron in HBP (or possibly Book 7 either).

--Voldemort will be attempting to corrupt one of Harry's closest friends. It happened in the Founders. It happened in the Marauders. It's very likely going to happen in this group of friends as well... there's one odd man out. Unfortunately, due to all of Ron's aforementioned "issues", he looks like the most susceptible candidate to me at the moment. Of course, maybe that's misdirection, but... it just doesn't look good to me for poor Ron.

--Two-way mirrors Sirius gave Harry come into use.

--Harry tells Hermione that Dobby has been cleaning the Gryffindor Tower all alone since she's been tossing around her Elf Hats. Hermione feels so bad about this....

--She figures out another way to promote Elvish welfare. A less forceful way, hopefully.

--Grawp gets a "lady friend".

--We find out why Lily eventually decides to give James a romantic chance... and Harry won't like it (possibly involves more revelations on Young!James the jerk). Especially if this revelation comes from Snape (indirectly), as I suspect it might.

--Harry finds out he's inherited 12 Grimmauld Place and possibly the remaining Black family fortune. Unless Sirius left some to Andromeda and Nymphadora, which is certainly a possibility. I don't think he (or Phineas truthfully) would have allowed a single knut to land in either Narcissa's or Bellatrix's hands.

--BTW, Phineas Negullus does return. Probably wanting some serious comeuppance for the murder of the last of the Blacks too.

--Students Harry's year begin apparition training at school. Heh. Kind of like the WW equivalent of Driver's Ed, no?

--OWL results come in during the Summer.

--Percy and Harry run into each other and get into some verbal sparring. Percy, still estranged from the family, basically blames Harry for family misfortunes and tragedies since the Weasleys have known him (past stuff and whatever occurs in HBP). Although Harry puts up a strong front, he can't help but let what Percy says sink in and it torments him.

--Rita Skeeter gets her revenge on Hermione. I *totally* felt there was foreshadowing in Rita's dialogue in "The Beetle at Bay" chapter in OOTP. Hermione has, unfortunately, been fairly non-chalant in regards to pissing off Rita (and pretty much everyone else she's foiled). Methinks she's going to live to regret it.

--Moaning Myrtle and her crush on Harry come back into the story. We didn't see her in OOTP, I think she'll make an appearance in HBP.

--The Dark Mark will be seen over The Burrow. It's sad to think about, but I still see foreshadowing in that bit of dialogue Arthur says (post-DE attack after the QWC) in GOF about what it must be like to see the Mark over your home, knowing what you'd find there.

--Harry will keep taking his Occlumency / Legilimency lessons, possibly with Snape, Dumbledore or maybe the new DADA teacher.

--Voldemort will learn the whole prophecy. In finding out the prophecy, he will seek preventative measures from Harry fulfilling it.

--Hogwarts is attacked; taken by dark forces. Not necessarily Voldemort (could be his Death Eaters), but it's probably him. This is one of the major incidents that bleeds into Book 7.

--The way the young heroes split-up in the DOM (Harry/Hermione/Neville and Ron/Luna/Ginny) will be significant in HBP. How exactly, I can't guess.

--More info on the Founders will be revealed.

--A severe fissure forms between Harry and Ron by the end. The future of their friendship is put into question. For various reasons, but more specifically because this fissure emulates the fall-out between Godric Gryffindor and Salazar Slytherin.

--This book will have the most devastating ending for the heroes of all seven books. I have long suspected book 6 will have the worst ending. Sort of making it "The Empire Strikes Back" of the HP series basically. Always darkest before the dawn and all that jazz.

RANDOM PREDICTIONS -- HALF BLOOD PRINCE CANDIDATES:

Viktor Krum - Although I don't think he'll be back for HBP, maybe book 7.

Remus Lupin - According to JKR, he's classified as a half-blood in the WW, but I'm not so much leaning on Lupin. It just doesn't feel right to me.

New DADA teacher - The new DADA teachers always have secrets, maybe being a "half blood prince" is his in book 6?

Godric Gryffindor - Currently, my favorite choice... of course I'm saying that partly because I really hope we get Founders backstory in HBP. I really think we will.

Salazar Slytherin - My second favorite choice, much for the same reason as GG.

RANDOM PREDICTIONS -- DEATHS:

Peter Pettigrew - Dies from wounds received defending Harry from Werewolf!Remus.

Remus Lupin - Dies from being stabbed in the heart by Peter's silver hand (You gotta know he got that thing for a reason).

Charlie Weasley - I actually imagine Charlie may be first in line to die in HBP. He's a Weasley, but not necessarily a Weasley we know. His death wouldn't so much effect the readers as it would be used as a means for drama in the Weasley family.

Arthur Weasley - Jo says he'll never be Minister, yet I do think he's just the type JKR would likely make Minister. Which leads one to ask, why won't he be the new MOM? Probably because he dies (is assassinated?) before he can acquire the title.

Molly Weasley - This is a rough one and one I'm not so sure of, but I could imagine her death possibly being the very big one of the book. Right at the end. Maybe trying to defend (a defenseless?) Harry.

*is in awe*
I find it amazing how you manage to keep a level head and sensibility intact while these rational and hilarious reasons are explaining themselves. Alack, poor Ron, I rather like him.

Damn you, Peter. XD

*g* You should catch me once when I'm drunk after a big HP movie marathon or something. Then you'd really experience some HP madness. ;)

Alack, poor Ron, I rather like him.

Hey! I like him too. ;) But when I say I like characters, that doesn't necessarily mean they *must* be the perfectest, most unblemished characters forever and ever. I love Snape, Umbridge and Lucius Malfoy too (They're deliciously evil and fascinating. There are so many levels to their dubiousness and shadiness. Umbridge is like the epitome of that character you love to hate. Totally entertaining). Not sticking Ron in that motley crew or anything, but... there is *so much* delicious potential for him to turn so very bad. It's something I'm equally dreading and totally giddy for. Which probably makes no sense... but so it is. ;)
