MirrorMask site update

This is yet another entirely random entry of bullshitery (and also proving I'm still alive)... but the MirrorMask site has been updated with a new trailer, wallpaper and other bits of coolness. The reviews from Sundance at AICN seem to be hovering somewhere around "It's Gaiman/McKean so it's brilliant" (tinged with fanboyness) and "It's gorgeous to look at but the story is meh". I was seeing this for the Gaiman/McKean factors regardless... it's also just something I'd probably see eventually anyway. It's both exceedingly pretty and bizarre, a la The Nightmare Before Christmas or The Corpse Bride. I have pondered what G/McK could do if given Spider-Man level coin for any random project (I hear "Stardust" is being adapted into film, but methinks that probably won't have Spidey coin)... or LOTR money for "American Gods" the movie? What method to the madness would unfold then I wonder?

Other (rehashed) randomness, the Fantastic Four trailer doesn't look as bad as I thought it was going to be... then again, the Perfect Circle song could be skewing my better judgement. Although, admittedly, it's skewing it a lot since I'm coming into this movie with only a very lukewarm interest in the F4. It was a surprisingly good song choice for a movie that seems to exude Hoobastank/Drowning Pool/Evanescence/Etc areas of trailer music. My better judgement may also be swaying precariously on the ledge due to Julian McMahon, who is very pretty (as are Ioan Gruffudd and the Human Torch who I've never seen or heard of before this). However, the movie in all accounts probably will suck (Tim "Taxi" Story and Jessica Alba?). I also hear this was kind of thrown together the last second so Fox wouldn't lose the rights to a superhero / cash-cow franchise with potential for sequels (aka, it's a gratuitous, slap-dash money project). I've also heard rumors about the film's end which give me a "WTF?" vibe. I probably will be more entertained by The Venture Bros' spoof of the F4 then this... but, again, Julian and Ioan are very pretty. ::is horribly shallow & easy::

Alan Cumming also seems to be convinced X-MEN 3 will be shooting this summer, despite the current lack of a script or director. The impression I'm getting is a Summer/May '06 release is *adamant*, thus filming must begin this summer. Patrick Stewart has been saying the same more or less. Perhaps Fox does have a director in line, but they're keeping quiet about it for whatever reason? Joss Whedon seems to be out of the picture, so it can't be him. Otherwise, I have this nagging suspicion Tim Story and/or Paul W.S. Anderson will be getting more directorial work. Which just makes me want to weep openly.

Julian and Ioan are very pretty. ::is horribly shallow & easy:: Yeah, me too on that. SO is Albe, though there's the whole blonde thing. All i know of the Fantastic Four is a smattering of cartoons so I'm not that tied up.

The unmovable date for X3 is interesting, the lack of obvious script of director is worrying.

I have the distinct worry that Fox is going to panic and just hire on whoever before their contract runs out (and so they can crank this out - by whatever means - May '06). It's a frightening thought.
