"X-Men Evolution" Cancelled

Not exactly "official" yet, but apparently all the reports coming in seem to be pointing to it. EVO is over. It's too bad, but can't say that I'm surprised. It seems to be the case, Marvel rules the big screen and DC rules the small. Barring "Mutant X" (I don't know how it got such a big following. It's total crap. Although I hear the ratings have seriously slipped in the newer season) and the cell-shaded "Spider-Man" series on MTV.

It's never going to happen, but I say Marvel turn the X-Men over to some of the big guns in anime. I wouldn't mind at all seeing the X-Men in the style of Bebop, Inuyasha or Evangelion. Especially the last. X-M has the characters, they just need to *do* something with them. Hell. Although I'm not a "Big O" fan, I do think it has a great look. Very art deco (allbeit it almost gratuitously copies the Batman animated series. They were both made by the same animation company). It's got the giant robots, X-M has the Sentinals. The styles could be compatible. Then again, anime is obsessed with giant robots (perhaps X-M anime was *meant* to be? ;).

No question if X-M were anime it would look good (depending on if you're an anime-tolerant or not), but one of the drawbacks in EVO was the lack of really tight storytelling. The 90s series had the storylines (excluding some of the supremely cheesy dialogue, but then it's animation based on comics. You've got to be a little forgiving in that area) ... but the animation was ghastly and almost embarrassing. EVO had considerably better animation, but not enough in the script area.
