I don't know why this news invokes any sort of reaction in me. It's not like I'm ever going to afford to jaunt off to Beijing, Sydney or wherever to actually watch him swim... although Montreal is a bit closer than Sydney. Perhaps it's just the idea of guaranteed absence of new images of Thorpe-in-black-wetsuit for possibly a year that affects me.

God. I'm sad.
I know he looks pissed in this pic (the Aussies lost the 800 free relay to the Americans), but it also illustrates how tight that wetsuit is. You can see his swimmer's man-V.

I actually like the suit *more* than the Speedos. I've just never dug the Speedo-look on any guy.

Not that there's anything wrong with unclothed torso Ian....

And am I pic-spamming? I think I am!

From FOX SPORTS NEWS - AUS

Thorpe's coach Tracey Menzies confirmed yesterday she and the 22-year-old Olympic champion were toying with the idea of an extended sabbatical, but the plan was not yet set in stone.

*****

The proposed break would rule Thorpe out of July's world championships in Montreal, where he would be aiming for a fourth consecutive 400m freestyle title.

It's a "proposed break", so nothing is confirmed as yet... and I still don't know why I care. I guess I just feel sorry for the Canadian Thorpistas. ;) So close, yet so far.

In other randomness, am I the only one on the planet who just doesn't care about SPONGEBOB? It feels like it. They've got the likes of Scarlett Johanssen doing voicework in the new movie. One of my co-workers today was wearing Spongebob t-shirt... she's 27 yrs old. I just don't get it folks. I tried watching it, but all it seems like is a slightly tamer Ren & Stimpy, underwater. What's there that I'm not seeing?
