As an additional warning big time spoilers about the New Mutants arc of Ultimate X-Men here.
Well, this issue was touted as the introduction of Ultimate Dazzler, but she's only one of three new characters introduced, we also get Xi'an Coy Mahn (Karma) to dig around the President's brain to see if Xavier manipulating him, in addition to a catscan, we learn the President isn't being manipulated by Xavier.
At the Institute, Scott and Jean discuss the events of the Blockbuster arc and whether or not Jean has full control of her powers, seeing as she killed two people. Jean assures Scott is in control most of the time and that being trained as a solider, sometimes tough decisions must be made. Which isn't exactly what Scott wants to hear. Next, Xavier tells his students about Dazzler and her plan to out herself at a concert and asks Scott to take a couple students with to talk to her. Kitty and Colossus go with Scott to talk to Dazzler (a punk rocker with spikey black hair, throw out all perceptions of Dazzler, this is a completely new take). She doesn't want anything to do with Xavier or the X-Men or the other group of mutants that approached her (who we never learn the names of). Finally, Storm is increasing her control over the weather to pinpoint accuracy, when she goes to tell Beast though, his room is empty.
Back to the President, his staff is worried about his connections to Xavier, especially due to the events with Angel and what happened in Colorado, yep the White House knows it was a mutant and that Wolverine killed the kid. In response they suggest that the President begin recruiting his own New Mutants and to help in this task, his staff has hired the third new mutant of the issue, Emma Frost!
A great issue that really gets the arc moving and plants some great seeds, the cliffhanger was amazing seeing Emma Frost as the Government's answer to Xavier should provide some great developments.
Sounds good. Now only if I can bribe someone to go buy it for me.
If there are still rumors about Dazzler in "X3", then hopefully she will be more as she's described above... not the disco diva.
